What was the issue? (sorry, I'm out of the loop). I've been wanting to try some FVF but couldn't get it anywhere. I'm signed up for email alerts from several online retailers.

Thanks for the heads up. I went straight to the site, saw several items in stock and got an order together within a minute or two. When I went to check out, it was gone. Hilarious.

Thank you! I was quick enough this time to get a tin of 1792, which will be my first experience with this tobacco. Softens the blow of missing the Stonehaven last night haha!

Because Gawith only ships a few times per year and the product sells out rather quickly once it does ship. Nothing magical, no conspiracy. Be ready with your credit card in hand when it does become available as it won't be for long.

$60 for 8.5 oz..... I bought my FVF at $29/lb, course that was 2007 - 2010. Funny, I remember a self proclaimed expert from another forum (back in 2008) that said tobacco would become more widely available and at lower costs once the subsidies ended. Glad I didn’t listen to his advice.

Damn!!!! Yesterday when this post informed us that cup o joes had stock I immediately went on the site and tossed about a dozen tins of different blends in the old cart. 2 hours later when I got home from work I went back in to finish the sale and everything was all gone. Needless to say I was... well, you know... anyway lesson learned I guess.

Aro222, experience has taught me that you have to be very quick. Saving in the cart for later won’t work. Many times selected in stock items will disappear during the closing of the transaction (even with a standing account, standing method of payment, and a fast internet connection). I would, also, recommend frequent visits to sites. If you depend on forum announcements (often made after the op’s purchase) or other postings, you will usually be late to the trough.

I've had items disappear while I was trying to add more items. It happens that quick (well, apparently not with P&C but it sure does with Tobacco Pipes). You snooze, you lose.

Is it me or is it strange that SP does not have any of these in stock. I would think that the bigger the outfit the more buying power ?

All the stores got SG shipments last summer, July through August time frame if memory serves me correctly. And they all had been out of stock for quite some time at that point, 5 or 6 months. SP may have gotten more than anybody else but the demand is clearly greater than the supply. They all sold out of the more popular SG blends (FVF, BBF and SJF) very quickly. Saint James Flake was gone within a day if not less. It is what it is, you better know what you want and when it becomes available, jump on it before it is too late.

Have you you confirmed that? Although they've taken down all of their SG by now, they are letting me cart up 11.5 million dollars-worth of Balkan Sasieni. =)

You think it was hoarders that caused Tobacco Pipes to sell out in 30 minutes or less? And are causing "this shortage"? You need to rethink that. SG shipping only once every 6 months or so might have a lot more to do with it but why bother considering the facts?

The SG will hit the other internet shops and will also hit B&M's over the next week or two. So if you decide you don't want to save your money, you'll have plenty of opportunities to spend it.

B&Ms here only sell vape now. So there. I think hoarding is now the norm, and the voice of reason will surely be drowned out. Even if those hoarding have already enough to supply 10 people for several lifetimes.

If you can't afford a 10 dollar tin of tobacco when available, then maybe you just shouldn't be smoking. When I started cellaring about 7 years ago, Gawith was readily available except for FVF. Since then, it has been pretty much been available with stuff occasionally out of stock. The current shortage appears to be a domino effect of people cellaring like mad after McClelland closed shop.

. And there are dozens across the country who have phones and will ship. You can call them or you could call a waaaambulance

And you have someone who bought 40 tins "before the hoarders bout the rest up." I surely hope that was tongue in cheek and meant as a joke.

If someone spent $400 on something that will sit in a cellar probably never to be opened is none of my business. I am lucky it was sold out otherwise it might have tempting.

Hmmm, do tell. If you quit spitting venom and cultivate friendships on here, you get tips for where to look. As far as hoarders causing immediate sell outs, I got a 1792 tip earlier today, and ten hours later after I got home from work I ordered this.

I took the advice and followed the example set from from experienced folk, who said stock up while I can. Best advice I ever took in relation to the matter.
Harris, Peck, Duane, Mark.... All motivated me to get focused on getting my cellar right.

I live in a country where the risk is extremely real that tobacco will not be available in any form, in the very near future - and I'm glad to nearly be at a point where I feel comfortable about my hoard, and have no regrets for having done so.

Im a hoarder, and pleased to be so!

I always find the ceremonial pissings from folks that missed a sale, tobacco drop or whatever, highly amusing. Must be tough living in a basement stealing your parents internet.

As well you should and glad to have helped. There's going to come a time when tobacco is either going to he completely unobtainable, or far too expensive to buy, and I'll never feel shame for stockpiling.

    +1

Some search the top three or four online suppliers and think it's gone. There are several other online stores not to mention B&Ms that still have it in stock.

Everything else aside, these drops sure are a hell of an impulse-sales technique, even if it's unintentional. Worked on me like a charm. I bought 250 g. worth of tobacco I've never even seen before, much less smoked, and paid shipping at two different places today. I sincerely doubt I would have done that just out of the blue if it weren't for the whole sporting beat-the-clock aspect of it. Kind of disappointed in myself, really, feel like a bit of a sucker. My curiosity about whether these blends really are that special and not merely rare got the better of me, I guess. Regardless, I'm psyched to try 'em out if the orders go through. I'm sure it drives smokers in cellaring mode nuts, but it's very cool of dudes like cohibajoe and weedsnager to share their fishing spots with John Q. Public noobs like me. Thanks again, fellas!

Ha! I think it was Cream Skiffle or Full Squadron or something like that. Can't remember. What does it matter anyways, right? Not like I could tell the difference.

Both are a delight, and quite different. Don't let the moisture surprise you as dry time comes part and parcel with many Gawith blends. Congrats on the grab!

Sorry, I thought you were joking, Embers, so I was attempting to joke too... Dang Internet!

I got one tin each of 1792 (I think I like the tonquin on some other blends I've tried, and I like the strong stuff), FVF (just because)), Kendal Cream (I love Burley), SM and SL (never tried a real, live English English from England). Fun times ahead! It's going to be a killer waiting for them to dry out before stuffing them in a pipe.

Obviously, I'm not cellaring - just taking the shoot-anything-that-moves approach to trying all sorts of different tobaccos. Tried about 40 or so now. Trouble is, I almost never take an immediate dislike to any of them - they all kind of taste good to me, with rare exception. So, I guess I'm doomed to not having any go-to blends. That's just as well, I suppose - it would be just my luck to get addicted to something that immediately becomes super-rare.

That sounds like how my cellar started.
