Can't Leave
If you are not familiar with Fraunces Tavern, it is a cherished historic place in lower Manhattan where George Washington and other notables dined and rested. When New York City was America's capital city, the tavern housed several cabinet departments. It was here, inside what's known as the Long Room, where Washington bade his officers farewell in 1783. Today its upstairs is a museum, and its downstairs has a fully functioning restaurant and bar. 54 Pearl Street. I think they're still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, but the facilities are open. Sam Fraunces himself, in addition to being proprietor of the tavern, was Washington's personal cook for a time.
Fraunces Tavern is proud to announce a new beer on tap: Samuel Fraunces® Ale!
This unique beer is brewed by Blue Point Brewing Company in Long Island near the waters of the Patchogue Bay. Blue Point’s President, Mark Burford was instrumental in helping the SRNY obtain on the necessary requirements to distribute Samuel Fraunces Ale exclusively at Fraunces Tavern.
Samuel Fraunces Ale is a deep amber ale with hints of spices reminiscent of the early New York mercantile spice trade: cinnamon, ginger and clove. It is a very drinkable beer and has been received with enthusiasm from Tavern patrons.
Stop by and have a pint of this unique beer only served at Fraunces Tavern. On sale ($10) at the Museum is a beer mug etched with Samuel Fraunces’ signature and designed especially to accompany the new ale.
