Hello to all! Ex-lurker and figured it was time to say hi. Transplanted Brit living in Coeur d'Alene ID. Came here in 2002. Been on/off pipe smoker circa 1997. More off than on until 6 months ago when I gave up cigs and took the hobby seriously. Blessed with a wonderful local B&M and cigar lounge - Bulldog Pipe & Cigar. Used to live & work in Kendal UK which I am sure is a fairly well known town on here? Currently smoking SG FVF, Mcconnell Scottish Blend, Presbyterian and a couple others. My username is actually my real first name and possibly a few Conan Doyle readers may have heard it before. Born in Dumfries Scotland, oh and I'm a ham radio guy too.

Welcome. Interesting bio. What moved you from Scotland to U.K. to Idaho? I'm in North Carolina, grew up in Chicagoland illinois, spent about ten years moving continually attending schools and in the U.S. Navy, but have been in N.C. since 1972.

    Welcome from California!

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Now if I can just figure out why my avatar isn't displaying …

    > Welcome. Interesting bio. What moved you from Scotland to U.K. to Idaho?

Moved to England when I was 12 and to US at age 30. A long story involving ex-wife etc.

When I lived in Kendal I didn't smoke a pipe and was only vaguely aware of SG and GH. There used to be a nice tobacconist on the main street (Fitzgerald??) which I occasionally went in but was looking for ciggies back then. Probably long gone by now.

    > Glad to have you aboard. Do you listen to "I hear of Sherlock everywhere"?

Actually very few people have ever made the connection with my name. I guess in the books it is used as a surname but probably wasn't that uncommon in Victorian England & Scotland. If I had a buck for each time I had to repeat my name I would be a rich man.

    Welcome sholto, from Tennessee.

You’re more than welcome as far as I’m concerned! There are some “gatekeepers,” but they’re easy to ignore Post in my threads anytime, and say what you like!

“Well, I can’t cure death. This is bad, Morty. You’re trapped in a dead man. Listen, if the situation keeps darkening, do yourself a favor and pop by Pirates of the Pancreas. Obviously I’m biased, but I think it’s great, Morty. It’s a bunch of *belches* pirates running around a *belches* pancreas. We don’t whitewash it, either, Morty. I mean, the pirates are really rapey.” - Rick & Morty

I just figured out how to display mine. You have to click on your own name on the bottom of the page where it says "members online now" and then change your avatar for the forums.
How long have you lived in Coeur d'Alene Idaho and how do you like it there? Recently I have seriously been considering a move to that location, it looks beautiful and cost of living seems reasonable.

Thanks for the tip on the avatar. I'm not sure I would have figured that one out!

Moved to CD'A in 2002 and been here since apart from a 5 year spell in Republic, WA and 8 months in Wisconsin. I love living here in the lakes & mountains. The air is fresh, the water tastes good and the weather is definitely 4 seasons with a perfect Summer temp. There are still bars (pubs) here where you can smoke and we have the Bulldog Pipe & Cigar lounge where I spent a few hours this afternoon. Paul & Mary are the owners and it's a very pipe friendly place with good beer & wine. Lots of influx from California these days and consequently real estate is getting expensive. Don't wait too long to move I guess.
