I was never a huge fan of the series though what I did see was rather humorous. But to pop one's clogs at 53 has to be sad for anyone. Of course I am guessing that the comedy was shown in the US.

Yes, this is quite sad. I remember watching VoD through my early 20s.

Never watched VoD, but I thought she played a great part in Notting Hill.

I've never seen the show but, as I am now 49, the thought of dying at 53 no longer seems so remote...

    Notting Hill I remember her.

Never heard of popping one's clogs. I will have to start using that one.

Darn. First her death, then finding it's not on Netflix or Amazon without paying extra.

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I really enjoyed her work in the Vicar of Dibley, 53 is way too young for anybody.

Is your facebook broken? Why is pipesmgazine's hardrive dedicated to your BBC news links?

POSSIBLY, contentment is not only the chief element of life, but also one of the very foundations of society. If this be so, then as Tobacco is the enemy of malice, friend of virtue, and a direct cause for content, its use should be encouraged. -J.W. Cundall 1901

    Stalker alert!

If you're so incensed by Jay's posts, just ignore them. Don't even open them, and as I said crudely in another thread, please be quiet.

John, the guy clearly needs help, sadly not the sort of help to be found on a tobacco forum.

He's already managed to get an earlier thread closed through his trolling and bizarre statements. He's best ignored until he is able to behave in a civilised and adult manner.

    Regards,

    Jay.

    jpmcwjr +1 -

3P's come to mind, and I am not referring to the tobacco:

Puerile......pathetic.....predictable. And, for the avoidance of doubt, I am referring to "the stalker".

Brightleaf, I can't tell if you're a right wing nutjob or a left wing nutjob, which is really hard to pull off. Which is it?

I am neither. I don't like a site subverted for political purposes. I think both right wing and left wing news sites are for bigoted people.

    Ironic...

But back to the subjects of the post: mortality and mourning for someone. I remember her vaguely in the film "Notting Hill". Turning 53 myself, it is good to be reminded that one's life span never came with a guarantee. Live well while we have life... The important bit being the adjective 'well'; is it merely a subjective sense of 'well' or is there, as many traditions tell us, a pattern for living well...

    Thanks for the post, OP.

After some time he felt for his pipe. It was not broken, and that was something. Then he felt for his pouch, and there was some tobacco in it, and that was something more. Then he felt for matches and he could not find any at all, and that shattered his hopes completely.

Notting Hill is a guilty pleasure movie for my wife. Emma played the free spirited sister and was quite good. Another gone too soon....

I'm not sure if "The Vicar of Dibley" made it stateside, but it was truly funny - in a British kind of way!

Both the Flix and Amazon Prime have it, but for extra charges. Or "free" if you also subscribe to Brit Box.

I'm aware it is spelled "ciao". There was a reason for the stab at phonetic.

I should imagine her sudden death will bring on a repeat viewing of the series, they tend to do that.

Next time it is shown I'll try to get into it more though if I recall it has the canned laughter thing I so hate, whether genuine laughter or not, I find it distracting.

    Regards,

    Jay.

Jay - I hope so. The character played by Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott) is hilarious. I didn't see every episode, but I will certainly do so if the series is repeated.

And I agree with your comment about canned laughter.

53 is really very young and the news is naturally sad but I confess that I never really liked The Vicar of Dibley. For some reason, it came over as a little wanky to me. However, compared to the crap sitcoms I have tried to watch recently it may be worth a revisit. Out of curiosity I just looked up how many episodes there were and was staggered to find there were only 20. It felt like much more to me.

In this day and time, age 53 is awfully young. At least this actor seems to have had a full career. Time is precious.

Yeah, the canned laughter got to me, too. But it didn't eclipse Emma Chambers brilliant sense of humor.

I see it is/was shown on BBC tv tonight though I know not if it was in tribute.
