Thanks for the news, sad though it may be. That he was eventually afflicted by the disease he devoted his life to treating is ironic -- but no less so than that he will be remembered for an entirely different accomplishment. Well, I guess we can't be too surprised by the achievements of some Type-A personalities.
Not wishing to denigrate his sporting achievement, but it was a case of 'right time, right place'. He never won an Olympic medal. Professionally he was a neurologist, working at St Mary's Hospital in London.
"Loved by his family", but perhaps not so much by his junior colleagues - word of mouth can sometimes be more revealing than press releases, lol.
