Rest in peace Ralph. Thanks for the great bluegrass music. He was one of my favorites. I really like the Stanley Brothers. They aren't quite Flatt & Scruggs for me, but I like them more than Bill Monroe.

Ralph was one of the masters of bluegrass. I know a classical avant guard composer who is a big fan of his. I heard Ralph live about four years ago. He was one of these lucky performers who had years of successful touring later in life, and the energy to do that. He'd had a frail time about eight years ago when his family only let him do brief sets during concerts, but he came back strong when I saw him. No one took more pride in an honorary doctorate than he did, and he was often addressed as Dr. Ralph Stanley.
