Lewis was the commencement speak at my graduation in Louisville (1998). He was no spring chicken then and no one knew what to expect. He started off very seriously, continued on for about ten minutes, and then unexpectedly burst into one of his imitable nasal voices as only he could do. Broke the place up. Continued to tell jokes and entertain. When I walked up on stage I actually had a cohiba esplendidos in my pocket (it was graduation after all) and I thought about offering it to him. Would have made a better story, alas. RIP Jerry.

Lewis was also a talented dramatic actor. I enjoyed his recurring role in Wise Guys and his performance in "Fight for Life" with Patty Duke.
