I am wanting to try some new Vapers, or Virgina based blends in general. I smoke a lot of burley based blends like PA, SWR, etc... I would like to hear what some of you guys would recommend for me to try. I do look forward to the replies. THANKS

I recently explored VaPers, and found one that opened up a whole new world of pleasure for me.

I recommend to you A C Petersen's Escudo Navy Deluxe.

    I also liked Solani's 633.

The Escudo was tangy & spicy, the 633 grassier. Both were easy, biteless, smooth smokes.

But the Escudo is something special... It's reputation as a classic is well deserved.

There's nothing quite like tobacco: it's the passion of decent folk, and whoever lives without tobacco doesn't deserve to live.

    Escudo is amazing!

It is robust and peppery like a cigar. But it does not have that smokey leafy taste to it that a cigar has. also it has a nice creamy Virginia taste to it.

I smoke so much that I can't afford the boutique prices of most tinned blends, so for me it's the bulks (which also provides some cellaring fun):
I recently went through the 2oz. Hearth & Home sampler selecting Vapers by Russ Ouellette.
I thought Rolando's Own and AJ's Vaper were quite good; Louisiana Red , my favorite; Frenchy's Sunza Bitches tasty, but too assertive for me; and Capitol Stairs, which, were it not for the deertongue, might be a starting point for the Burleyphile as it is essentially a mild Vaper on a Burley foundation.

I find McClelland's bulk 2015 Virginia [broken] Flake to have a delightfully tangy, citrus-rind taste. Well worth sampling. Unfortunately, that taste fades into generic warm smoke as it approaches the end of the bowl. It has no detectable vitamin-N; but I like that tangy taste so much I'm willing to put up with it's downsides.

I find myself sitting idly on the line dividing past and future,
as if I could kill time without injuring eternity. -- Thoreau

One of my favorites is Esoterica Dunbar.

Like some others have recommended, don't miss out on Escudo.

    Right now my favorites are:
    H&H Louisiana Red
    H&H Anniversary Kake
H&H Virginia Spice (has some cigar leaf, but not too much that it overtakes the VA/Per)

    Some really good blends are:
    C&D Exhausted Rooster
    H&H LJ Heart Virginia

There are a ton more VA/Per blends out there, these are just some blends that I have smoked recently and remember them pretty well.

    Here is my list:

    H&H AnniCake - the ultimate?
H&H Sunza Bitches - Think an oatmeal rasin cookie with white pepper and bourbon
H&H LA Red - semi sweet red va blend
H&H VA Spice - the cigar leaf smooths out this VAPer
4 Noggins - Essence of Vermont - a PG rated Aromatic - has maple and spicy plum

One that was discontinued in 1996.
    A and C Peterson Blend 120.
A hearty perique blend that came in a 2 pound tub.
    Still have 2 pounds aging.

Something I'm kicking my ass over today is a mistake I made when I first began RYO. There was a tin right next to the RYO tobaccos on the shelf at my B&M and it looked cool, so I bought it along with my other tobacco.

The tin was Bell's 3 Nuns. I knew nothing about this Vaper twist and was disappointed when I opened the tin to discover pipe tobacco. It's no longer imported to the U.S. and since I've been smoking a pipe, I've read many comments about how people miss it.

Yeah, I mistook it for being one of the European hand-rolling tobaccos that I'd just discovered and thought it was going to be a shag tobacco in a fancy tin.

It smelled really great and the couple cigarettes I did roll lasted 20 minutes. It's a shame I didn't appreciate what I had at the time.

Dubinthedam is one of our members.

I am in love with P.S. Bullseye Flake. One pound is on the way. I really like the added sweetness of the black Cavendish center. I also enjoy St. James Flake.

There are so many I want to try.

My favourite VA Per is Charles Rattray's "Old Gowrie", and a close second is Orlik "Bull's Eye", although it is spun around some Black Cavendish...

I too want to thank everyone here for their suggestions, especially jonesing,
for compiling that extensive list. I'll be using it as a reference and check-off list.

Thanks to one of our esteemed member's generosity, I am finishing my second bowl of Escudo Navy De lux. I love this stuff. I have tried other "legends" and been disappointed. Not this. I folded 2 coins in my Meerschaum, and rubbed another, to put on top. The Perique comes forward right away. More so, than any Vaper I've ever smoked. It has that fermented sour fruit flavor. Sour, in a good way. Deeper into the bowl comes the sweet and sour taste. It is not as peppery as the Perique I have smoked in other blends. The quality is just amazing. Lighting, burning, and packing easily. Burning cool, down to a fine ash. I probably never would have bought this for myself, because of the price, but it is worth the price to smoke a legendary tobacco, that lives up to the hype.

    Thanks friend.

I've never tried Escudo, but by coincidence I have a tin in an online shopping basket at this very moment.
Waiting for "She-who-must-be-obeyed" to be in a good mood before I pull the trigger. Can't wait.

Escudo and please let it age .

One of my favorites Vaper is GL Pease´s Cumberland (with Kentucky too) and Saint James Woods, a special mention for McClelland´s Royal Cajun a blend with Virginia and a "perique like" tobacco.
Escudo it´s a solid option for Vaper, but I prefer McClelland 2015 (Bulk)

C&D's Bayou Morning is an excellent vaper. Bayou Evening is also said to be excellent though I haven't tried that yet.

Since this just got mentioned in the "Latakia.. what's the deal thread", a bump for the newbies looking for Va/Pers

The Va/Pers I tend to grab most are:
    #1: Escudo
    #2: Sunday Picnic
    #3: AJ's Va-Per
    #4: Hal O'The Wynd
    #5: Louisiana Red
    #6: St. James Flake

On the shelf, but not tried yet are:
Cumberland, Golden Sliced, Kajun Kake, Stratford, Telegraph Hill and Fillmore.

About to buy some Bayou Morning and Bulls Eye... and some Dorchester if I ever can get my hands on some

Davidoff Flake Medallions is one that took me aback at just how tasty it was. VaPer with a black cavendish core. Sweet but not biting and pretty darn flavourful.
