While I was re-reading Russ' interview the issue was raised about getting the aroma from the aros into the actual taste while smoking. I prefer the way things are. My pipe tastes like tobacco on the tongue and I retrohale or use a full bent so I can capture the aroma also. Which led me to question, why are all aromatics sweet. Why not bacon baccy or lime/chipotle blend?

Interesting question. I'd say aromatics are sweet because the savory aspect of an aromatic blend is supposed to come

from the tobacco itself, that can be nutty, or have a variety of other herbal/organic tastes and fragrance. To work in

additional non-sweet flavors would be difficult and would introduce a lot of off-tones that would come across to many

people as just being funky and unpleasant. Walnut might be an exception, but it has a definite sweet zing along with

the nuttiness. If you can come up with a flavoring that is not sweet and complements tobacco, you might have a

proprietary blend in hand.
