I'm not a fan of it. I got all pumped up reading about it on tobaccoreviews.com and bought a tin, but only made it through one bowl. [:(]
Trade?

Being fan of Vaper and english tobacco, I smoke about 1-2 tins of presbyterian a year. Virginias predomominate although it is not a sweet tobacco. It is stout and lacks complexity imho. I would liken it to a kentucky bourbon rather than a cognac. This is not a tobacco you would sip. It kind of seizes your senses immediately and then settles down.
Consequently I reach for presbyterian only for a change of pace and for this it serves its purpose.

Presbyterian took some getting used to for me, but I have come to appreciate it over time, as with many other good things in life:)
All the reviews I read at the time seemed to make me think I should expect a traditional english mixture with the usual balance of virginia, oriental and latakia. As I recall, I had just finished a tin of Squadron Leader when I opened my first tin of PM, and I think I was expecting much the same sort of tobacco.
I was at first disappointed that it wasn't what I was expecting. There was little if any of the usual smokiness from the latakia in an english blend, but the taste was of a milder sort, blending virginia with orientals. Now I know people argue whether PM has ANY latakia in it AT ALL; I can't comment on that. If it does, however, it is used very sparingly.
In any event, it took me some time to like PM for what it is, not what I wanted it to be. With some gentle, slow puffing, I have found it to be a very pleasant and mild virginia/oriental blend, that mixes sweetness and spiciness/sourness in a nice, balanced way.
YMMV of course, but it is a decent blend IMHO, nothing earth-shattering, but just solid and reliable.

I was like many, read the reviews and was expecting something really special. It didn't happen for me. It was an English mixture Lite and I made the last half of the tin smokeable by mixing it with Common Wealth.

I tried it, but just couldn't get anything out of it.

I gave the tin away years ago and haven't looked back.

I like this blend ,but I can take or leave Latakia as to me it overpowers a blend and sometimes ruins the nuances . But the blend is classic and I find it worthy of a place in the cellar . If you can pick out nuances while you smoke you will like it . I suppose Iam lucky as complex blends are a joy for me to smoke .

I'll have to see if I still have it. I think it went down the road to a new home already.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this stuff has jumped to my favorite along with MM965. The Latakia in Presbyterian is juuuuust right for me.

I thought it was fantastic. Ordered another tin but shipments to the country of Colombia has been slow. So far, it's been two months since my latest order and it's no where to be found. I guess someone is enjoying?

Though there are many differences, I find that Presbyterian, Bengal Slices and, to some extent, Capital Stairs fall into a certain category for me. It tastes and smells as if I have visited an old manor house in England and the owner brings me into the library that's been there for centuries and offers me a tobacco. I imagine it tasting like this.
