I just was able to purchase THREE of these beauties. He made no better, these were his own pipes that HE MADE himself. No Hallmark, Fancy, Britta Bech or any other of his pipes that bare his name were made by him personally. Has anybody gotten lucky and found a reasonable deal or deals on one or two of these pipes lately??

Yeah, pal.
Pix or it didn't happen.
There are several PH admirers & owners here and even more PH owned Ben Wade Danish smokers.
If you shot a game winning three then post up.
Preben Holm was an exceptional talent and, God bless him, the man got lost in the excess of his success and subsequent failure.

What a life the guy had, short though it was. He inspired the whole Danish design in pipes, still evident in Nording, Johs, and others.

WO Larsen inspired Danish design? I need to brush up on my history, I was going to give all the credit to Sixten.

I think one could say, that the two most important pipemakers in the Early Danish Modern period were Sixten Ivarsson and Sven Knudsen, along with others who worked at Suhr's Pibemageri. If you want to study the history, that's the best place to start.

Nobody was trying to be snippy with you, good sir, I assure you. He, like most of us, just loves to see photos of fellow member's new acquisitions. Often times we'll say, "Pics or it didn't happen," or something similar, as he did above. It's just our way of pushing you to show us your new treasure. We like seeing them almost as much as you do! :) So once you get those babies in, hook us up with some eye candy! :)

PRIVATE COLLECTION was the highest grade of pipes produced during the Ben Wade period.
The Private Collection line is from Preben Holm's last period in the late 1970s, early 1980s. The wood was selected by Preben himself and he designed and carved these flawless pipes characterized by an exceptional grain. It was, as he said, the best of the best.
Two gradings systems,
Early letter grading (ascending): A, B, C, D
"x0x" grading system (ascending): 101, 202, 404, 606 and 808.

I believe this is what the OP is referring to. Preben Holm Private Collection
Per pipephil, these were made from the late '70s through the end of his career in '86 - made for sale, not his personal pipes.
Kind of cool though, never heard of the line - but then again, I am not a freehand fan and don't really pay attention to them.

They're beautiful pipes, with stunning grain. Look forward to seeing the pics and indulging a bit of pipe porn! And remember - don't read tone into online text; it's ruined many a friendship...

Those are incredible. The grain and shapes are amazing. He was a craftsman, an artisan, a master of his craft and a damn lunatic. Look at those shapes! Beautiful pipes 4etec! I'm not sure I would be able to even bring myself to fire those up. I hope you enjoy them thoroughly. Congradulations on them!
