Pot shaped pipes are one of the few shapes that seem to actively offend some pipe buyers. It's the basic simple cylindrical pots with the broad chambers that apparently look too rudimentary to some, despite the fact that these are some of the traditional staples of the extra pricey Dunhill marque. There's a whole second version of the pot that I associate with the Sixten Iverrson design done for Stanwell that lives on in many different pipe brands, where the pot bowl tapers toward the bottom (or flares toward the top) but is too stocky to be a Dublin. This version seems to be well-loved, or at least better loved than the cylindrical version. In defense of both versions, but especially the cylindrical ones, I would point out that many/most of these have a broad chamber that is excellent for complex blends, say four or more different tobaccos. I will agree that the old style pot is not eye candy, but it is a stolid, traditional, sturdy design. I own two, an Amadeus and a Savinelli and, as mentioned, they do a fine job with a good English or Balkan blend, whether PC Chestnut out of a tub or Nat Sherman 536 from a tin. Love 'em or hate 'em, how are you on pots?

I love the symmetry of a pot. I also tend to prefer shorter bowls as I find it makes for a bit more consistency in the taste of the tobacco. Only smoke VA's in 'em.

They may not be sexy, but the pot shape can provide an excellent smoke. Two words, Barling's Make.

This is my one and only pot. It's a 2013 Dunhill Bruyere 4106. It's 1.3 oz., 5.4 inches long, and has a .76 inch chamber diameter. I like it because it's light for a pot, yet is still a group 4 size, and has a chamber that would accommodate just about any type of tobacco well. I've been smoking mostly Virginia's in it. At 19mm, Virginia's do fine in it; but I think most pot's have chamber diameters at or above 20mm, making them, in general, more friendly towards latakia blends.

The only one I own is a waley frank it smokes Virginia's fantastically. Only problem is it's a pain to look for the things on eBay.

I have 3, unfortunately 2 are 100 miles away, they are by Erlich, the one I have here is a 1948 Dunhill DRR C-EE and one of my favorite smokers.

I only have one pot. It's an M. Elkin straight grain with a couple fills. Despite its flaws, I love how it smokes and it was inexpensive. It seems to like GLP Sixpence... I will be getting more for sure.

Well, there are pots and then there are pots. Some pots are squat and some are lean.
I like this pot: http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/new-dunhill-bruyere-pot-al-pascia

I only have one pot shaped pipe, but it is one of my favorites. Its light as a feather with a broad bowl that really lets some blends shine.

I have never been drawn to the pot shape, but I love smoking them. I've found a few that look better than average to my eye, and there's not a stinker in the batch.
From the top: Savinelli Punto Oro, Royal Sovereign by Orlik, Savinelli Straight Grain, BB&S John Peel, BB&S Challenger.

No pot pipes here. Only tobacco pipes.
But seriously, I'm one of those that just doesn't find the shape attractive. Some of the ones above that look nice are more billiard-like than pot shaped.

I've just become acquainted with the pot shape over the winter. I have 3 pipes in that shape and they smoke everything I've put in them wonderfully.

I have a couple of pots that I smoke, but this oil cured Bannard is a stout little gem.

One of my largest pot shapes is the GBD Prehistoric with Perspex Stem and it's great for English blends. A little more fuss to keep it going and maybe a couple extra re-lights but a good smoker:

My first "real" pipe was a GBD pot (circa 1970) and I still smoke it. I happen to like the shape and it treats flakes and plugs very well. I like the shape and will always have a few around.

I have one pot that I haven't smoked in a year or more; don't care for how it smokes.

The pot was the first shape that really appealed to me but it must have a saddle bit. I currently own four pots and two of them do fabulous things to latakia heavy blends.
