I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my work area with everyone since this is as clean and organized as it gets. My basement workshop is about as close to a Fortress Of Solitude that I have. This is where I do all my pipe restorations, and as you can see it also serves as my guitar workshop. I try to keep the two areas separate, but the tools sometimes cross over. I just used my Stewmac Nut Drivers to tighten the screw on a pipe rack...

I have about 30 pipes waiting to be restored. I'm working on a Peterson System right now with a very dirty shank. No surrender!

I have pictures of mine here.
Nice workspace. I wish I had a place to sit. I have been looking for bar stools but as I am a larger then normal guy not any old stool will do.

I rarely have that much space, I just got tired of feeling cramped so I finally tidied up my corner. :D
I still haven't made room for a buffer, so I either buff by hand or I clamp my drill into my little table and use buffing pad attachments. I don't mind having to switch the pads. I try to stick to doing just one pipe at a time, anytime I tried doing more than one it was too easy to lose focus on the whole process...

Greetings,
Here's the set-up, lots of clutter and briar dust. Pipe making is a dusty business (cough).
It's got all the comforts, heat and a TV!

The Rockwell lathe is my baby. It's a real workhorse. I do everything with it, from briar drilling, stem turning, to sanding and buffing. Great machine!

I feel suddenly ill  . Nice shop. You must live between Bob Vila and Norm Abram.
CA - Is pipe making your living or just a really serious hobby?
In all seriousness, I do aspire to have a shop like that one day. Very nice and clean.

Cool thread! When I get to the point where I can actually see my bench I will post a pic too.

I owned a retail tobacco shop for 10 years in Scottsdale, AZ prior to moving to Colorado. Closed it in 2005, so I'm basically semi-retired (I married up). Pipe making is a business, as I do sell my work, but it's not a big income producer. At least not yet!
Pipes take hours and hours to make and I spend a lot of time in the shop, so might as well make it comfortable.
Here's some photos of my store circa 2005.

My shop occupies on side of our utility/laundry room on the basement. First pic is my main work table which is actually a 30X80 door held up with large shelf brackets and 2X4's.

Next pic is my bandsaw and home made buffing station.

Finally, my drill press and Grizzly 7X12 lathe. I use the lathe more than any other tool in the shop, mostly for making tampers.

You know I would start out with a shop like CA's but would always end up with a shop like yours  for whatever reason I love it when its a cluttered mess like that... seems like theres always something to start or finish :D

Here is a pic of my basement work bench, I am also a part time leather-smith, and under the bench is whole sides of leather. The maple top is from my Father in laws forest, he mills wood. This top is 2 inch thick solid maple. 1/6 of my tobacco is in the jars to the left, and my pipes are in front, with boxes of estates to be worked on underneath the bench. Love this workspace!

OK, here is a picture of my wife moving logs back toward the shop in the detached garage. It is packed with tools.

Here is my Jet mini-lathe making a vase. I use the big Jet for bowls and larger items.

My little dremmel, saw and files with a piece of sideboard screwed to a chest of drawers.

Dam you guys! I'm gonna have to spend some pennies now lol

Work benches are cool. I have a couple! Outdoor stuff -bikes, skis, archery. Wood working and the lathe really is a work bench on its own. CA that Rockwell looks good. You're a lucky man.

Awesome shops guys and gals! My bench does primary duty for auto/motorcycle repair but the right corner is where I do my pipe restorations. My buffer fits up into the bench mount vise. I have a propane heater and the walls are insulated, so it stays pretty cozy in the winter.
