Hello Everyone,
I have mastered stem restoration via Pipe Novelist's wonderful tutorial, but I would like to restore the rest of my estate pipes. Being a completely and utter greenhorn at this, I have no clue where are the good places to buy the staining and buffing equipment needed to restore a pipe.

i would say any hardware store would do. Specially one that deals alot of wood. Theyll have all the types of sand paper and stains. Just not sure about the waxes. (or if you need any). Thats were i got my stuff to learn how to play with pipes. Homedepot

Jestco for buffing arbors, wheels, compounds. Buy their $15 arbor and put it on a 1725 rpm motor, they are on Ebay and/or Amazon. Try your local electric motor repair shop. An old furnace motor is what I use, works great.

Net for micromesh sheets/pads, Amazon has a lot of options.

Neither Home Depot or Lowes offer much of the above, in grades for pipe work.
The SmokersForum.UK Restoration & Maintenance section has a good sticky with lots of supplies/vendors:

I've been buying my sandpaper on ebayer for about 4 years from this seller-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/350585822439?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 . I usually by two of the 25 sheet lots. You can mix and match the grits any way you want. I get 360 through 1000. Anything finer than that I use Micro-Mesh.

I also use Jestco for all of my buffing supplies. Other places for refurb/refinishing supplies are -- http://www.pipemakers.org/ http://www.pimopipecraft.com/

I second ejames recommendation of pipemakers emporium and pimo for refurbishing supplies. The alcohol based stains that many pipe makers use are Fiebings Leather dies. A good shoe repair shop will probably have them. I just replenished my supply today at the local cobbler. (Yes, they do still exist).
