Finally posting my "first" pipe and hoping it is what I think it is. Mayfair, Sasieni 2nd, I'm guessing nineteen-forties or fifties. I can't make out the town name under the Mayfair logo, so if anyone can read it, I would be most grateful. I started my piping with this in August and have learned from this forum how to not get "bitten" and to try every tobacco I can until I develop a taste for particular types. I got my first tin ever today. It's HH Old Dark Fired and I smoked my first bowl in this pipe. Fantastic !! Its a whole new level from Palladin Cherry (which I still plan on enjoying from time to time) and the blends from my local B&M. I love the Bulldog shape and will be getting more, I hope, next year sometime. I will be posting my newbie collection after I get my new (to me) BBB in the mail sometime this week. Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge and humor these past couple months. I'll post a pic of this, with stem, here after I clean it (again). Enjoy the Pipe Porn.

I don't believe you have a Sasieni Mayfair. The wording underneath is imported briar. Hopefully it is a good smoker. Seems a healthy piece of briar and a pretty nice stem.

Thanks! The pic is not the best. It has been stamped twice. I should have pointed that out. Yes, it says "imported briar" under Mayfair, but if you look at the M you can see a swoop going over it from L to R, an "o" between the Y and F, a "t" between A and Y, and it looks like "ilt" at IR. It is a great smoker with an easy draw, especially since I removed a "chess pawn" looking stinger, a ball with two curved pieces coming out of it. I looked at a map and couldn't match anything to the name nor really make out what it is. If it's another makers name, I've never heard of it, but that's not saying much. :puffy:

I don't think it's a Sasieni...I do think it's a nice looking pipe. The Sasieni pipes have Sasieni over Mayfair over London Made, Made in England on the shank, and a shape number, which for this shape would be 87, the Hendon. Again, it still looks good to me.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for clearing this up. It is indeed a Custombilt. I mistakenly assumed the original stamp was a town which led me to Sasieni Seconds. Reading on Custombilt, their large Algerian blocks, pitting, and other stylistic features fit squarely with this pipe. I have no money in this (except the tobacco) but it has been a puzzle trying to figure out who made it. I have no desire for misrepresentation and hope a moderator or someone can tell me how to alter the title of this post to "Mayfair/Custombilt." I love this shape as it fits perfectly in my hand and can now search for shape 87 Hendon. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to posting pics of an ACTUAL Sasieni when I snag one in the future. :)
