    G'Morning everyone,

Last evening I enjoyed my first 1/2 bowl in my new Sav. Morino. Smoked pretty cool. I must admit, I forgot the taste of breaking in a pipe hahaha.

Unfortunately the surface of the pipe bowl bubbled after one use. I contacted my e-tailer & they offered to exchange or refund & put the money towards another pipe. They did state it was common for the Sav. Morino's to bubble, due to the clear coat. I just wish there was a disclaimer stating this prior to purchase.

I'll take the second option and find something of the same style, but not a Morino.

Also, on a side note; I'm completely unable to acces pipesmagazine.com website or forum from my home computer. I'm in my work office right now and its working fine? Has anyone encountered a problem like this?

As for the pipe issue, Savinelli is certainly a good and much loved pipe brand, but this is precisely the reason I shy away from any pipe with a painted, varnished or shellac finish. I much prefer natural or stained pipes and thus suggest you do the same when considering a pipe to replace the "ooh shiny" one to better avoid the unpleasantness you've experienced with your Morino.

As for connecting to the PM Forums from home, I'm no expert for sure on this, but you might want to check your computer's level of security. I had something like this happen (but not with PM Forums) and it turned out that certain updates had changed and I was unaware the security was increased -- it was an easy fix.

My Peterson has a lacquer finish and the pipe does smoke hot. Fortunately it hasn't bubbled and it actually seems to be wearing off - but I now know better than to get one with a glossy finish (even though they look great).

    stpatty,
My workplace had security settings on their server, that would block anything to do with firearms, tobacco, pipes, etc. That could be an issue for you also. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry about the last post, I misread it and thought the problem was from your workplace. Duh

As for the Web access. . . I wasn't having any problems yesterday. You may have just hit the site at the "right" time to get an errant page.

As for the pipe. . . I sympathize. It can be disheartening when something you took the time and care to pick out ends up disappointing on the very first smoke. (I had that happen with a gorgeous, feather-light Charatan straight-grain freehand. The thing burned out on the very first bowl.) But I have to say: I'm astounded that a brand like Savinelli is even producing painted/shellaced/varnished pipes at all. To me, those are the finishes you find on drugstore pipes, not on name-brand pipe-shop brands. (And I got no respect whatsoever for drugstore pipes.)

Hope you enjoy your "replacement" choice!

I did not know Savinelli clear coated some of their pipes. As said above, avoid those type of pipes like the plague. I know Savinelli makes plenty of others without the clear coat, hopefully you can find something you like among them.

No good suggestions on the pipe but I believe this may be the Your IP is in a blocked range screen I've heard rumors and legends about. It probably means Kevin at one point went a bit overboard on a specific IP Range when blocking for spam reasons I believe it's a quick message to Kevin

It was disheartening, I did spend a good few weeks culling my choices, and I couldnt wait for it to get to Australia. It smoked great, I just didnt realise the surface bubbles till I set the pipe down.

I may soldier on with this one, I got to the post office this morning & return shipping was $35 - I protested because to receive it only cost me $11 - And there wasnt a cheaper postal option.
There must be a difference in the way Aust & USA postal services run.

I'll see if I can get in contact with Admin, because I had access prior to the Christmas/NY break.

I doubt that Kevin blocked an entire range in Australia. China maybe, but not Down Under. I'll check with Kevin.

The differences in shipping is probably because the cost to ship to you was USPS charges, while the cost to ship it back is Oz charges -- it looks like Australia charges a lot more that the USA. If you are insuring the package that will also add to the mailing cost.

But wow = $35 = this suggestion may or may not work for you, but you could just keep the pipe, especially if it does smoke fine for you. You could always strip the finish off it at some point, that would leave the stain and, if it's important to you, you can wax it.

It's possible, Australia was colonized by criminal

I sent the Admins an email, I'll just need to send him my IP address once I return home for him to do a check.
