How did each pipe get their names? Why is the Canadian not a British, etc?

Some are named from shape: Apple,Billiard, Brandy, pot etc and others from people who smoked/created/designed them: Crosby (Bing Crosby), Lovat (designed by Colonel Henry Fraser (Lord lovat)), Oom Paul (Paul Kruger (Oom Paul Oom Paul is Uncle Paul in Afrikaans)), and Prince (designed for prince Edward VII).

The Canadian is my favorite shape. I have heard that it was supposedly a shape preferred by Canadian fur trappers - they lived a rough life. It was common enough to have the rubber mouth piece break off (I would imagine the tennon snapping in the mortise.) When this happened, the oval shank was comfortable enough to stick in the mouth and carry on with life.
Of course, that is only a legend. Beats me. But Canadians are tough pipes, and I like 'em!
