I have enjoyed this pipe for 30+ years but don't remember and can't read the maker on it. Can anyone help?

Like you, I can't read the script, but I know very few carvers or pipe makers who etch their name on the bowl like that, so that may help identify the maker.

Either. I have just forgotten over the years who the maker was. I need some of those memory pills advertised on TV

Thank You snagstangl

Maybe this will jog your memory:

Possibly:

Ulman (with a flourish or two; the top arc of the "a" is missing)

77 (this date is certainly 30+ years old)

1 or I (grading system, style number, or serial number?)
Or is it Hebrew (or some other non-Roman characters)?
Is this a pipe, or perhaps the only pipe, from a long-forgotten artisan or hobbyist pipe maker?

Inverted. I'm not sure what it is.
Images converted to monochrome, cropped, increased contrast & applied an unsharp mask filter.

cossackjack,

You have done amazing work! Thank You!

I was thinking that I had bought the pipe between 1976 and 1980.

I was smoking this one last weekend when I realized I didn't remember where I bought it or who the maker was. I may have bought it in a Pipe Shop in the Galleria while in Houston. I do remember that it was a pretty radical design back then.

Thank you for your help and generosity of time.

P.S. Love the Heinlein quote.

You're welcome. It was my pleasure & fun. I've done this with other latent pipe-stampings, photographing with tangential lighting, exposing several shots from different angles & compositing the images, if needed. I edited your photos on an iPad 4th gen, though it would have been easier on the computer.
I couldn't find any similar stampings on the internet. At least the year fits with you recollection.

I would like to see more pictures of this pipe.
The Heinlein quote is from Time Enough For Love & is my favorite.
