Pain In The Neck

Thursday morning I delivered a military truck to the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, GA. That all went without any hitches, as expected. Those loads are rarely any sort of problem. After unloading I was told that the driver, a new guy, who was supposed to pick up in Knoxville, TN had quit and left us hanging.
I had to dead-head almost 400 miles to get the load picked up on Friday. It was at a closed down grocery store and was the coolers and freezers from the store. They had already been disassembled and were ready to load. I really hate these loads. The insulated panels that make up the walls of these things all get stacked onto the trailer.
The problem with them is that they aren't very heavy and they tend to slide around. It seems that no matter how tightly you strap them down they still shift around on you. I didn't even make it out of town before they had shifted.
As it took all afternoon to get them loaded and secured I just said to hell with it, stopped, and checked into a motel. I would worry about trying to fix the load in the morning. This load promises to be a pain in the neck all the way to Wisconsin.
I am now having my morning coffee and in a few minutes will go out there and see if I can rig a strap across the panels and use it to winch them back into place on the trailer. It won't be easy but I think I might be able to manage it. If not, I will have to find some place with a forklift and pay them to move them back into place which is something I don't want to have to do.
Once I have them back in place I'll add another strap on the end that shifted, pulling them back in the opposite direction from the way they slid which will hopefully prevent them from doing it again. Hopefully.
I can already tell this is going to be a long weekend. Good thing I have a good supply of tobacco.

Thanks, folks. It only took about an hour to winch the panels back into place this morning. It took much longer for the hotel to round up all of the idiots who don't know how and where to park their cars. You wouldn't believe how those idiots had parked; it was impossible for me to get my truck out. They finally got ahold of all the offenders and, after being warned they would shortly be towed for improper parking, they got their blasted cars out off my way.
They put stripes to indicate parking spaces for a reason. Seems many folks don't don't what they mean.

Thanks, gents. I made it to Wisconsin with no further issues. Am now enjoying a couple of cold ones and just hanging out until tomorrow morning.
