Jonesing: I've been smitten by the pic of your new tankard!
I read on another forum that it is a very light-weight pipe...yes/no?
You fired it up this morning...What do you think so far?
What about the p-lip? I've never owned a Peterson, but seem to remember having read mixed reviews about the p-lip stem.

    I like it.

    Yeah amazingly light weight.

And it smokes great. I was a bit alarmed at first because I thought it was smoking wet. But it was user error. I have freshly opened Irish Flake and I didn't dry it long enough.

2nd bowl with adequately dried Union station smoked like a charm.

Important to know though that this is a smaller poker. Which is one of the reasons I bought it. I figured it would make a great "public pipe" meaning a great pipe to stick in a pocket, very sweet looking, nice and light, a bit understated etc.

It's not tiny. Smaller chamber diameter (approx 60mm???) but it's pretty tall and I got a good hour smoke out of it this evening. That included a few pauses talking to the wife and some relights etc. And I smoked it clear to the bottom to get the heel since it's new.

And so far I love the P Lip. I really noticed a difference. The smoke hits the roof of your mouth not your tongue. Notable impact on bite and even the little nips that I find almost always show up here and there.

I also was glad to see you can run a cleaner up the mouth piece while smoking. The hole is big enough.

So I'm pleased. It's not a kick back and watch a movie for a couple hours pipe. But it looks to be a great one for a 30-45 minute smoke and to take with you out and around when you might find time for a little quicker smoke.

Damn it...this stupid PAD! It's never gonna stop!

I have nearly convinced myself that I NEED one of these:

    - Peterson Tankard

    - Peterson Barrel

    - Tsuge Tankard

I was wondering if that was possible. Congrats on one of your first briars turning out to be one you really like.

    Bytor,

I was eyeballing the Tsuges at Cup 0' Joes the other day. (Good retailer, but a little pricey.)

My theory is that a Japanese pipe will be made with quality in mind just like a Japanese pen or mechanical pencil. I think the Japanese take their writing instruments seriously and would probably feel the same about a pipe.

If I were to buy one, it'd most likely be one of the naturals that Smokingpipes.com keeps in stock for 2 hours after an update.

    I also considered.

Savinelli 310 (not this exact one)

Ferndown 3 Star Reo. My fave. Cost won out. Look at that shank and stem.

    Stanwell 245 (in feather weight)

Yeah...I'd probably consider the Stanwell. Not sure about the Savinelli. The Erica Fiamma I picked up some time ago left me a bit disappointed.

Seeing as my Stanwell Churchwarden should be arriving tomorrow, I think I might be able to hold off another attack for a little bit :)

I agree on the price of the Tsuge, Dudley. I think it just grabbed my eye cause it is a bit different!

I've got to stop window shopping! (and find a B&M) HAHAHAHA

    Yeah...I noticed that too :)

That Ferndown is a nice looking pipe...but I've found I prefer the saddle-bit stems over tapers. They just "fit" better.

That thing's huge. I want one.

Taxes on pipe tobacco should be directed to sufferers of PAD. It's a teribly devastating disease.
