My "unused Marxman" came in the mail today. First impression is it looks pretty good, couple dings on the briar and the stem needs a good polishing, but overall I am happy with. Looking at it a bit more, I'm not entirely sure it is unsmoked, but if it's not, looks like someone put in the work to make it seem that way. Either way, I'm going to soak the stem in some oxy clean and run some sweetener through the briar before I get to breaking it in.

On the sweetener though, since the pipe has no cake at all, is it alright put some on a q tip to try to get some of the stain out of the bowl, not looking forward to a stain soaked mouth...

    Finally, here are the pics!

i'm thinking about trying it a few times with and without it. never used one, just makes sense to give it a try. also, the stinger came out and went back in very easy.

Why would someone make a pipe... and stain the inside? Seems completely stupid to me.

Sure you can do that with no problems,do the shank as well. I'd save the sweetener and get some 91% isopropyl alcohol to do it with myself. You could also wrap some 280 to 400 grit sandpaper around a 1/2" dowell rod (or something similar) and carefully sand the bowl chamber.
