Wednesdays are about the only day I need to go "on location" for a product shoot, well at least the only one in which I spend a big part of my day on site.

On my Uncle's side of the family, the own one of the oldest companies in the area. As they are getting their website and online store up and running I've worked on the images for the site.

I travel light. All I take with me is (obviously) my camera, a 20" x 20" deshadow box, 5 background sweeps, 2 LED lights and my external speedlight.

It is quick and easy to set up, takes literally about 2 minutes. I usually have about a good 30 minutes before the products are brought in to me to photograph, so normally I would go back out side and smoke quick pipe. Well first off, I walked out the door this AM, leaving said pipe in the house. No big deal, a bit disappointed but heck I will survive. I have my coffee and even though I'm doing my best to quit cigs, I had a couple in my car, so I could at least get the nic fix.

I reach over to get the cigs from my passanger seat, in turn, I knocked over my java, spilling it all over me and the pack of cigs. A full cup of coffee + a pack with only 3 cigs = ruined. Grrrrr

Second thing I noticed was, since I live with chronic pain, when I'm only going to be out for a few hours I will just grab a couple of pain meds and throw them in my pocket in a baggy (because of the type of meds, I actually keep an old Rx label from the previous refill taped to the bag, just in case I run into the law). This morning I was running late so I just dropped meds into my pocket...grrrr #2 and said spilt coffee ruined what I had with me.

I never invested in an external power pack for my speedlight, don't know why, but never really did. But about 20 minutes into the shoot, I notice the cycle time on the flash getting slower...a sign what should've been freshly charged batteries are losing power.

This doesn't make life totally impossible since product shoots I use a Canon 7D and can use the built in flash, but this is not optimal. But I continue nonetheless. About 45 minutes into the shoot, there was a bit of a lul, so I was going to go up to the shop and either harass my uncle (we are from totally separate ends of the political spectrum, so it's fun to get him going), or see if they had any nice jars for storing tobacco. As I turned, my foot got caught up in the cords for my lights, I knocked one of the LED lights off the table, hitting the ground and in turn causing the light to break.

Not even 2 hours into my morning I forgot my pipes, spilled my coffee, ruined my nic fix, ruined my meds, didn't prepare and bring extra batteries and ruined one of my lights.

Fortunately the shop isn't to far from a Turkey Hill, I was able to get fresh batteries and a new cup of coffee and something to fix my nic craving.

I get a text from my wife - did ya find your pipe? I'm like I forgot them? She says no, I put the pipe case in the trunk, you didn't see it when you packed this morning? No, I was running late so I just threw everything in the back seat. She then asks, well, what was all the gear in the trunk?

Thanks to being a pipe smoker (and a helpful misses) I would never have remembered the smaller deshadow box sitting in my trunk.

Unfortunately didn't have time for a pipe on the job, but boy did that pipe (Sav Author filled to the brim with Sterling 5 Star) taste extra special today !!!

Nice new replacement light has been ordered, power pack a little more then I want to spend at the moment, but now hiding extra batteries all over the place !

Sounds like a rough start to the day, but at least it got better!

Wow, what a day. At least the missus took care of ya and you had an extra nice smoke after the chaos.

I am still trying to figure out why she put the pipe gear in the trunk and not the driver seat...but thy not mention that to the wife for fear of repercussions.

I put it in the trunk, because that is where you normally stow your gear. I feared if I put it on the driver seat you would've sat on it.
