This got deleted, but I'm going to allow it under these conditions.
1. Only One (1) Facebook url allowed per person.
2. Personal pages only. No businesses, organization, hobby, pipe, tobacco pages, etc - with the only exception being actual real, local pipe clubs that meet in person - that is ok to post.
(Basically, the idea is that this forum / site cannot be used to promote your own business, hobby, agenda, competing site, blog, or a site that should be advertising and is trying to get a freebie.)
Awwww Jeeze Kevin you must be in a mighty good mood this morning! I'm a throwback so I don't participate in facebook but I enjoy coming here and catching up.

Yep, that's right, there is none, I have no interest at all in social media.

That's funny. What do you think this forum is?
No bookface for me, sorry. Too dangerous professionally but y'all enjoy.

I like it almost as much as your avatar.
Stig, what do you do professionally that makes a facebook page dangerous?
http://www.facebook.com/anthony.rosenthal.7 friend me friend me friend me friend me friend me....
I'm a teacher.
That's funny. What do you think this forum is?
You know, it depends on how you define social media.
Is Google social media? No, if you only use it as a search engine and/or Email.
I don't consider internet forums social media per se.
I like it almost as much as your avatar.
Good, because that's the whole dang point.
I've already put out more info than I should about myself on this forum and it too is dangerous for my job but for now, the reward is worth the risk.

Glad you didn't tell us. I was worried that if you did, you'd have to kill us.
I'm not trying to be dense or an ass with this post. Peck, if you're referring to answering what job I do, it's 4 posts above this one.

Hey Stig, I am just busting your balls. I completely understand.
No worries, just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
I'm not anxious to post my facebook link in public, but I did just send friend requests to the three of you who posted above.

I think I have a dozen PM Forums friend requests Emails in my GMail Pipes folder. I've answered none. Yes, I'm an odd duck. But I can't see the purpose of friend requests. When I joined here last August, I knew no one. Over time, I've made a number of friends here, them reaching out, and sometimes me doing so. Old style I know, but it works for me.
Too much Link-a-Dink, Rink-a-Dink, post a link in this world, Shee! The old cajun
I don't feel so silly now saying I don't have a Facebook now that I see so many of you don't have them either, and Rothnh I don't think I have ever read anything you have posted that I disagree with the entire time I have been on this forum, it's kinda creepy constantly seeing you post my opinion.
Nope, Roth doesn't believe in Facebook. He also prefers using his carrier pigeons over e-mail as well.
Nothing wrong with that. heh heh
Kent and Glenn, the chances of me checking out your Facebook page is less than zero. Good luck with it, though!
I like friends...

Right there with ya, buddy.
And I'll go one further: As useful as computers and the internet are, and as much money as I've made with and because of them in my life, if I could snap my fingers and erase it all from the planet, well, you wouldn't be reading this because I'd have snapped so hard you'd have thought it was a .22 going off in your ear. The internet, cell phones and social media have destroyed civility, and our civilization to the point where it can't possibly survive. TOO much, WAY too soon. Our kids....hell, most adults, just weren't ready for this level of technology and communication and there's no going back, at least not in any easy way.
Sorry about that rant, I'm a bit disgusted with the internet nonsense today.
Says the guy on the social networking site...
Says the guy on the social networking site...
read above for our definition of social sites.
Not sure how a Facebook friend request turned into this debate about social media and internet itself. In my opinion, internet and global communication defines current civilization and does not destroy it. Cause if you think about the only one thing that reaches Almost all human beings in the world or enable them freely to communicate and express their opinions it will be internet, not to mention it as being the largest money rewarding business these days.
For our facebook friends here, sorry do not have one....
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on here that it's used for social networking... I'm not trying to pick fights, I'm really not. I really like this site and I really value the people on here and their opinions. Roth, I love reading your posts and just a little while ago I was reading a few from MikePhillips about Customer service that I thought was outstandingly well articulated and thought-through. However, I get a little confused on this thread. The OP wrote that it was a place for people who wanted to connect on facebook as well to do so. Yet, there are a bunch of posts from people saying they don't like it. It isn't all that helpful. It would kind of like being if someone posted "Looking for a good (insert tobacco blend here) recommendation" and people wrote, "I don't smoke that." and "I don't like that." It isn't that helpful, you know? Just don't post then... That said, I may be an offender of this myself. So, take what I'm saying here with a grain of salt. However, even the people I've disagreed with on here I value their opinions. That goes especially for both Roth and Mike whom I've found to be very valuable in help, information and friendliness. So, I'm glad to be in contact with people on this forum any way I can. I recently made a friend on here who I think is going to be a very good friend. So, yeah... My Facebook page is above. If you want to connect with me on there as well, it'd be my honor.
No problem, Quincy, just don't mention Facebook here again and we'll do just fine.
And BTW -- I don't care what anyone is doing on Twitter
Sorry, fellas. Didn't mean to touch any nerves at all, though I understand both camps on the Social Media thing. Through work I end up spending a lot of time on it (not my work pages linked above for the record), but some days I really miss the world before the social networking craze.
You can't be too down on technology though... without all that new tech, you'd all be paying $30 more MINIMUM for pipes ALL THE TIME (instead of on occasion) at your local B&Ms.
Mine was intended to be informational as to why I was not posting my info with a dash of grumpy that simply working in a school makes social media a bit more dangerous professionally.
I'll be happy to be your friend in real life though if we ever get the chance to meet.
Roth, I take it Instagram is outa the question too then?
To me, Facebook is really what you make of it. I have come in contact with friends I long lost contact with. You can use it just for fun, or staying in contact with close friends and family. You can use if for political or business purposes, and all manner of things. Most businesses have a facebook page. I also have a separate page to keep people informed on the progress of my book. In some ways I love facebook, and then in some ways I hate it as well. But that's how it is with many things in our rapidly technologically advancing world that is both amazing and quite frightening. I don't blame people if they don't want to use it. I try to have fun with it though.
Roth, I take it Instagram is outa the question too then?
Looks like it but we might just lure him in with Pinterest.
The redhead *loves* Facebook. She keeps track of the kids and grandkids, her parents, her friends, loves it loves it.
OK fine.
Look, I get it.
I just do not want to hear about it here! LOL.
but hey, just put "Facebook" or "Instragram" or whatever in the subject and -- like those guys whov'e posted 90+ threads about goddam horses, I can ingore those threads too
THIS ONE HAS FACEBOOK IN THE TITLE ROTH!!!!
Did I stutter?
What"s wrong with horses. The old cajun
Stopped using Facbook a long time ago, and despise the obsession my generation has with the site. It is even plastered on cereal packets and other food items and constantly hearing about the bloody thing on the radio/tv. I do not hate it and it can have benefits to some people when used correctly, but for me I can do without it all it is unnecessary distraction and a waste of time. Rather spend some time on forums with like minded people having intelligent conversations.
