Saw this on eBay and it caught my eye. A fairly sizable pipe, nice grain, but only stamped Selected Collection, London England. I couldn't find much about it but found a few other pipes stamped like that in my search. A couple of them (smokingpipes) accredited Charatan as the maker. I've never seen or heard of this stamping before, but it is a nice pipe with a few small pits. Over 6in. long, 3in. tall bowl. Anybody come across anything like this before, or have any info?

Fine looking burner. What are you planning on smoking in it?

Already finished a bowl of MB Vanilla Cream Flake in it. First half the bowl, 1 hr. smoke, then 2 half hr. smokes to finish the bowl. I have a hard time sitting for a single two hour smoke.

Is it stamped Selected Collection or Special Collection?
This piece does look very Charatan-like.

Sorry Ken, I must have had a brain fart. It is indeed stamped Special Collection. Ever heard of them?

I think I have seen one or two others on ebay a while back and they also looked like they were made by a Charatan craftsman

Very interesting. So Ken, you think one of the Charatan carvers went out on their own for this line? It sure screams Charatan and that name is surely no mistake.

It's certainly a lovely pipe, whatever the maker. Enjoy the heck out of it.

Tall not extra wide chambers speak to me of fast-burning burley such as Five Brothers or especially Tabac-Manil Semois thick or medium cut. The narrow bowl slows down the burn a little while the tall chamber provides plenty of leaf. I don't have any stacks, but an Oom-Paul/Hungarian or Missouri Meerschaum tall freehand, for example, serve the same general purpose.

Whoa, *very* nice! I have to admit, my first thought on seeing it was more Moretti than C'sMake!
