Seeing as millions of people come through this area every year, pipe enthusiasts being no exception, I thought I would put a word out about the local B&M Customs House Cigars for anyone passing through. I have had nothing but pleasant experiences there.
It's located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, maybe 15 minutes drive from the Lewiston border or about 25 from the tourist area of Niagara Falls. Its a little small and easy to overlook but is located right in the "Olde Town" part of Niagara, a historical main strip full of small cafes, restaurants and interesting stores (not the money grabbing tourist trap type) and a short walk from the beach. Well worth the visit, the store itself is part of the old customs building. Easiest to find by looking for the group of moustaches standing in a circle by the front door.
The service is always attentive and the two older gentlemen behind the counter are full of knowledge and stories. Stocking maybe a dozen McClelland bulk blends and one blended in store, a decent variety of pouches including Brigham, Peterson, Amphora and Borkhum Riff and also a small variety of tin tobaccos. They manage to fit a decent selection into a place without a lot of square footage. That's not to mention the large walk-in humidor for those who prefer cigars, and of course all your usual accessories plus MM cobs, ornate meerschaum, calabash gourds and most importantly quite a bit of briar to choose from. They even sometimes have visitors from Nicaragua doing cigar rolling demonstrations!
This is where I find blends from Germain's that always seem soldout online! (Plum Cake, Latakia Flake, etc)
If your'e in the area and want to indulge your love of tobacco stop in and visit Ian and Customs House Cigars. You'll be thankful you avoided the bodegas/rip off artists near Niagara Falls' tourist strip. I know I am, I dont think I would have found pipe smoking so enjoyable at the start if I hadn't talked to someone with so much first hand knowledge to point me in the right direction. There's also two more shops located in the Falls itself, one a 15 minute walk from the casino and one inside the casino itself which I have yet to visit but plan to in the near future if anyone is looking for more information.
