That's awesome. I hope they don't incur tickets for the protest, lol.

NYC has essentially said that the law is uneforcible since the police have way more important things to do. In a city that swells to about 10 million people on most workdays this new law is a phyric victory for the do-gooders at best.

I kinda have to agree with papipeguy. I'm sure there's much more important crimes to bother cops in NYC than someone smoking in public. Didn't the government learn anything from prohibition? Alcohol flowed like honey during that era. What makes them think tobacco won't grow like wildfire if they ban it? At any rate it's good to see that New Yorkers, and vacationers, are banning together to show the lawmakers how stupid this law really is.

I'm all for it! My only concern is that the smokers leave the park in a clean condition.
Media cameras are sure to keep a fixed focus on even one cigarette butt laying on the ground.
They are skilled at editorializing with negative visuals while using objective, neutral language.

Like the so called media will even cover it . But I hope they do .

LOL! That ain't going to happen. Walk down a city street and look down. Even bars that provide a butt receptacle have a mountain of butts littering the sidewalk. A while back I was sitting on a backed up off ramp and I watched some guy empty is cars ashtray on the side of the road. Nasty!

It's the FILTERS on most cigarettes that is the culprit in litter. The paper, tobacco, and cigars and pipe ashes are bio-degradable and are reduced to nothing by exposure to the elements after a while. I have no qualms about emptying the car ashtray of my pipe ashes at a stop light. There's no evidence to see.

Here is a video interview with Audrey Silk, founder of Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment (C.L.A.S.H) at the 'Smoke in the Park' event at Brighton Beach:

It's a crime that in America (formerly the land of the free and the brave...) that a city can even pass a law like this in the first place. Bloomberg is a do-gooder out to save everyone from themselves. Can you imagine being told not to smoke in Times Square? There must be several-hundred thousand vehicles belching out emissions through that area every day. I'd love to attend that protest, hopefully it has an impact. The "Z-man" was on Ron & Fez radio show last Friday talking about this issue, which is enraging.
