I just won this unsmoked Viprati on Ebay. I was very surprised to see that I was the only bidder given that it's such a beauty. Is there something I don't know about Viprati pipes that makes them undesireable?

It is a great looking pipe! I have two pipes by Luigi Viprati, and both are excellent smokers. This guy also has some good things to say about them,

Congrats! Nice looking Viprati. I had four clover bamboo shanked acorn. Great pipe, smoked very well. The draw was not as open as my Radices, but performed well nonetheless. Viprati makes very nice pipes.

Viprati sells his pipes for less, though he is also known for beautifully grained smooths. I had an Italian-shaped briar, one of his lower grades, that showed a shadow on the rim. When I called the dealer he said that lower grade Vipratis often have flawed wood. It was cosmetic, and thereafter I ignored it. The pipe smoked just fine.

I haven't heard anything negative about Viprati, so if you got a good price on this one, you likely did well. It's quite a looker.
