As a new pipe smoker, I didn't want to invest too heavily until trying it for awhile. So this first pipe was from a "pipe basket" at Rich's Pipes in Portland, Oregon. It says "Italy" and that is all, but is a very nice model and I haven't a clue who might have made it.

And then, this little bulldog I found at another pipe store that says "Big Ben" in white lettering and with "Made in Holland" on the stem but I cannot see where Big Ben made anything like this. Is it a knock off or...? Delight pipe though and I adore this thing!

Any ideas??
Many thanks,

The "Italy" pipe could be a second from any italian maker. The Big Ben is right up my alley, as I love squat saddle stemmed Bulldogs. The stem looks like horn but could be acrylic.
Looks like a nice smoker.

Thanks, Voorhees. Though I'm really curious if the Big Ben is actually from the well known company. The stem is certainly acrylic and I only paid $27 for the pipe. Quite a little looker and a delightful pipe for sure!

i love Big Ben pipes, the finishes aren't that great but they smoke well.

i got the Christopher 343 brown and Barbados c647. but i have never seen big ben stamp their pipes like that.

(i live in the Netherlands, so it's weird that i haven't seen that kind of stamping)

but if your Big Ben is a good smoker, than no harm, no foul right?

"Who Made That Pipe?" lists a Big Ben model made in Holland by Elbert Gubbel. They make them currently as well as Hilson and Bentley. Other makers having used the Big Ben name are listed in England, Italy and the US.
The stem certainly looks like horn to me.
