New pipe for work that I don't need to worry about, nothing pretty but it smokes and fits in the pocket.

SmokeyWeb - that looks like a pretty nice pipe for a knock around pipe.
I've got a hideous knock around pipe; which I'm sure was a nice pipe back in the 60s or 70s whenever it was made, but now its just a beater pipe. Makes for a perfect pipe to take on the go, so if I lose it or drop it I won't care.

Thanks... but this thing is a beater. It was a Radice Rubino but the finish was all jacked up so I sanded it clean and I have pretty much hated it ever since. But... it smokes okay so I use it as a knock around and don't much care if it gets dinged up, scratched, or whatever. It does feel good having a pipe that you don't care about for this exact purpose!

Those beaters look great actually. Here's my glove box pipe, and a bonsai container.

Chasing: hope that’s a joke, if not then I’m really LOL
No joke on either count. The zulu lives in my dash for auto and yard work, and the billiard was on its way to the trash. Cannot find a truly smokable Dunhill.

I treat all my pipes kindly, so "knock-around" doesn't really apply; but this Stanwell and Jirsa are usually selected for their capacity and practicality when I'm on the go.

I bought a basket pipe to be a knock around pipe a few months back but I gave it away after a month or so. Total piece of garbage lol. I need to find another

What, no corncobs!

I always thought corncob pipes were the official knock around pipes. I have some cobs with forever stems that I'd rather not lose, but the standard $6 cob is very replaceable, and I use them as work pies all the time.

Orley, I do have some cobs, but besides being devoted to only Carter Hall, it is also only devoted to lawn maintenance, where the gas fumes help me enjoy the experience. I know some guys say they down't taste it, but I just can't get past that corncob taste, and out six, I was really hoping that one of them would smoke well, but I must either have a run of bad luck ordering those things, or other guys just have lower standards. YMMV :puffy:

Probably a refection on my taste, but none of those pipes looks particularly shabby to me. It took me a while to tumble to the fact that the original post depicted a resto rather than two different pipes, one with a straight stem. Okay, I'm aboard now. That zulu doesn't look at all down-market to me, pretty nice, bonsai or without.

Two different Dunhills. The zulu is my glove box pipe, and the LB billiard is the bonsai container. As far as being down-market, I will put a cob above either.

Really nice beaters, dig the bonsai, want to see more of them now.
...That rustication looks more like a sandblast. Very cool.
Thanks, Dave, always the aim but never a substitute. Be nice to have a blaster.
