A new film about Vincent van Gogh features lots of quality briar action. "Loving Vincent" is an animated feature film consisting of tens of thousands of oil-on-canvas paintings rendered in the Van Gogh style by 100 artists, and even featuring characters found in the Van Gogh portraits. It's an amazing thing to see, again, with plenty of pipe smoking.

Thanks, I will definitely check that out. I love the story of Van Gogh, probably more than his actual art. I have been told since I was old enough to grow my first beard that I looked exactly like him. Maybe it was my missing ear, or maybe my constant battle with hallucinatory crows. :puffy:

While visiting Amsterdam few years ago, I managed to check the Van Gogh museum. Such a beautiful place with lots of art inside. His personal belongings were also exhibited, I barely remember seeing a pipe though.

I hope to see this soon. I expect Sable to share his opinion of it with us. It would seem to be right up his alley.

There's some mystery about Van Gogh's demise. He was thought to have shot himself, but he lived long enough, by some accounts, to claim he'd shot himself, but he may have been covering for some kids who either shot him by mistake or boloxed a robbery. Unclear and apparently unprovable. As I recall, he never sold a painting. Seems really unfair. I always enjoy his work, taking impressionism to a next level, an emotional intensity not often seen. I've been to the Amsterdam museum and it is excellent.

As I recall, he never sold a painting

That's not exactly true. His brother was a big gallery owner in Paris, and paid Vinnie for the paintings that were sent to him. But, they were not "moving" among the Parisian crowds. They were just too ahead of their time. Vinnie did sell and trade his work on a local level in the Belgium, Denmark, country-side.
Honestly, the story that he never sold his work was meant to show some sympathy for Vincent and touch off some disdain for the Parisian art world, but Theo (his brother) wasn't really "pushing" his work very hard either.
Basically, he was a very successful artist in that he lived as he wanted. Getting money, never really improves anyone's disposition in life. IMO. He would have just been rich, miserable, AND crazy. Better to just be crazy, and allowed to do what you want.

One of my favorite artists! His paintings were the inspiration for the texture and color combinations for more than one of my lighting designs. I'll definitely check this one out. Thanks Briarfire!
