Hmmm, are these pairings? Or similar flavor experiences? I don't know the elegant beverages mentioned. I'd have to put Rocket Scientist (local micro-brew IPA beer) with PC Log Cabin in a cob, I think.

These are not pairings ... but rather similar in taste to some extent. Islay malts are smokey/peaty like Latakia. Talisker is mildly smokey, a hint of spice... like condimental Latakia/Perique. Balvenie is very mild with a complex flavor profile and with a hint of sweetness ... just like pale Virginia.

I'm not a Scotch snob but I do love the stuff and drink Single Malt's almost exclusively.
I drink all of my Scotch neat... Except for Laphroaig. I have to cut that stuff with water.
My favorite is Glenrothes, especially with a bowl of Penzance or Margate.
That being said, tonight I'm enjoyin a little bourbon and water. Tonights offering is 1792.
But I also enjoy a good Guinness, Fosters or Corona with my pipe or cigar.
