My Nording A - Antique Shop Find

I picked this up recently. I emailed Mr. Nording but no response yet.

I am trying to determine the age of this pipe, and its significance, if any.
The bowl was almost closed off with cinders, and the stem was a mess. I cleaned the stem but could tell it had been done once before I got to it.
Is the letter A signifying grade?
Was it worth the $6.00 I paid for it?

That's very interesting.

Looks like it does have some age on it...

I'm guessing 35 - 40 years.

I've never seen a Nording quite like it.

It does look like it has had the stem replaced.

But, as the other's have said... definitely worth $6.

I firmly believe that every pipe smoker must have at least one Nording.

So I want to smoke this one. Tryng to decide if I should clean the outside of the bowl, or leave it alone. Since I dont know whats inside this thing I was going to give it the salt/alchohol bowl treatment and then retort cleaning. any cautions before I proceed?

You did great.
I'd definitely hit this beauty wih the salt/alcohol treatment and then follow up with the retort. I'd also grab a cup of hot coffee and a roll of paper towels and gently remove the buildup of char on the plateau. Have you scrubbed the outer bowl yet? I'm wondering if the black marks are a buildup of hand grime.
