Just got in my estate James Upshall P grade straight. It's around a group 4, light as a feather.
Can't wait to try it out!

Its such a funny thing
Several months ago I wouldn't have even considered a straight pipe. Now, ...
Tastes change, that's one of the things that make pipe smoking so much fun.
I posted an Upshall bent a month ago that is a little heavy(it's weight) for my taste and I was going to sell it.
I'm smoking it now and I find that I really like it for English tobaccos.

Really nice score. I have one that's very similar (taper stem) and I bought it from the same seller as you. It was my first Upshall and I really like them -- sturdy, well-made pipes with a Charatanesque flair.

I love all of my Upshalls and bet you'll love that one as well. A very handsome piece in great condition. To me, the draw of an Upshall is just right.

I agree. They're not "wide open" like some Ashtons and other artisan pipes, but they're open enough and have a smooth draw (somehow). Mine has a significant tenon-mortise gap (ostensibly a no-no), but still smokes great.
