My meerschaum cutty pipe arrived yesterday:

Nice leather case with alligator pattern, clasp works wonderfully:

It was owned by a Mr. E. A. Daus:

Says finest quality "meer schaum"

I was hoping for an amber stem, but it appears to be acrylic. It screws in securely but not flush, I wonder if could add a small leather spacer?

The screw insert is some sort of plastic, bakelite perhaps?

Mr. Daus built up lots of (uneven) cake inside, not sure how to go about cleaning and restoring a meer, but any advice you guys can give would much appreciated! :worship:

Neat looking pipe. As for age, it's anyone's guess. I can tell you that acrylics were developed in the late 1930's so if that is wgat the stem is made from you've got a start date of 1937. Good luck with your search.

I would send it of to Dave and have him refurbish it. He can probably get the stem to fit flush, that is very important if you want to get a good smoke out of it.

The stem could be a replacement. I'm with everyone else... send it out.

That's one very cool pipe.

No suggestions here, or guesses on the age.

Just had to say that pipes about 9.75 on the cool-o-meter.

:puffy: Nice pipe TopD! That's a heck of a nice cutty too!

I agree with you guys, it's off to Dave for some TLC. I've already emailed him with pics and a description for a rough quote. I might see if he'll make me a new stem, about an inch or so longer with a slight curve.
