So after topping a pipe recently I was really happy with the results, so I pulled out this Dr. Grabow for another try. Pic of the rim was after I started sanding. Had a etching along the top that I hated.

Sanded past the stamping and etching on top with 320 then worked through a full set of micromesh.
That got me to here

Then tonight I finally got around to staining it. Had to borrow some proper stains from my brother.

So I'm really happy with where I'm at now. But I know it needs a good coat of wax to really pop. I have no buffer, so what do I do?

Paragon wax from finepipes.com or Halcyon II wax from the same place. Apply it with a finger, a few minutes later, buff it off with a soft microfibre cloth. These are great products for keeping your pipes looking good in the home. No need for a buffer.

I've heard of halcyon II and it didn't sound like what I wanted for this. The Paragon is a new one to me. That just might do the trick. Advertises buffing wheel results with microfiber polishing cloth. Just may have to order some.

What happened to the stampings? 8O Both of those waxes are great products. The Paragon cannot be used on rusticated or sandblasted pipes. A small jar will do hundreds of pipes. I keep a jar of each on my workbench.

This is no vintage pipe. It's a Dr. Grabow from last year. I had no intention of leaving the stampings, and don't regret removing them. There was more than enough thickness to allow it. Made the pipe look cleaner, and it's only a new dr grabow. It's not like I sanded through the stamping on a Dunhill or anything. Though I wouldn't normally aim to remove stamping, this time I wanted to. I only have a few rusticated pipes, and they won't be seeing any wax. Only smooth pipes that I'm either restoring, or completely restaining as I have this one, so the Paragon should work nicely.

Of the two waxes Paragon is-IMO- the best. Seems to be harder and produces a better shine.

I tend to be obsessive about stampings! Whether it's a Dunhill or a Grabow I'm working on,to me the stampings must be preserved.
