I remember reading about Sam and his pipes. I then sought his website and it was a shot of his workbench with some stummels bowl down over some dowels. One of them really spoke to me so I sent an inquiry as to had it already been made into a pipe and sold or what disposition was it in.
I got a rather quick reply from Sam stating he had done nothing with those particular stummels and was awaiting some blasting equipment to see what he would do with them. I told him which of them I was interested in and how I’d like it finished out and, of course, asking if that was something he could accommodate in no particular hurry.
I received another quick reply from Sam and it ended up being several we would have once he got his equipment running and was satisfied with the results. Since it had a rather Dublinesque bowl I though bamboo would look fairly sharp.
Sam answered me telling me he thought it might be a good candidate for a bamboo shank and that it wasn't spoken for. I told him if he got some chocolate brown bamboo in I'd be interested in the pipe.
It was about six months later I got an email from Sam and he'd mounted a 4 knuckle chocolate brown bamboo shank to the stummel and sent a photo asking if this was something I'd be interested in and I immediately said I would. A couple of weeks passed a a photo of the finished pipe came and I paid for it immediately.
Here I am keeping it smokey with some Mac Baren Dark Flake and it's mighty tasty.
