Hello all, Glad to be part of the forum. I'm a new member that has been smoking a pipe for a few years so basically a novice. In the few years of smoking/collecting pipes I have focused on Peterson/Vauen/Savinelli primarily. Recently I took a gamble on an estate purchase and would like some feedback regarding this Dunhill Estate Bruyere patent. Based on the internet references I believe this is an early 20's model. I'm curious if the older Dunhills have a thinner shank wall where the bit meets up to it.

I have a 1920 shape 35 bruyere so I'll offer my input. The shoulder of the mortise on my pipe is beveled to accept the ramp at the base of the stem tenon. That said, the tenon on your pipe is rather unusual.

Good eye, Doc!
A picture of the slot at the end of the stem would help to authenticate it, but I'd say the stem looks period accurate, from what's visible in the photos. Perhaps a previous owner had some trouble getting the tenon back in the mortise and clumsily sanded it a bit until it fit.
Beautiful pipe though, and looks to be in pretty good condition for its age!

Here are a couple more pics with a better picture of the beveled mortise. It was hard to take a picture of initially.

Here is the stem end as well.

Lastly here is the other side of the stem that is wavy gravy. Looks like it was sanded with a disc sander its so bumpy.

I do want to get a couple more Dunhills of special years(special to me at least) but need to do some more homework before I do so. Thanks again for the responses gents.

Thanks Jp on the photography with phone advice/thread. I'll read through that thread and see if I can get some better pics!
