This is my first Bari freehand. This pipe is little bit heavier then regular briar pipe but it smokes good, cool, and dry. The marking is Bari Special Handcut, Handmade in Denmark, 72 00

I hope i can add some more collection of freehand pipes into my collection in the future.

I've eyed a few Bari lately and will probably add one to my rotation at one point or another. That's a fine looking pipe right there :) Enjoy!

My late wife's aunt gave me a Bari bent billiard years ago, probably in the 1970's. It is a great pipe, light weight

and extremely well finished, so that it looks quite new although decades old. If you can find a Bari that you like,

and it is in reasonably good shape, buy it. They are fine pipes.

A Bari Handcut freehand was the first non-basket pipe I bought.I have never heard anyone say anything but that Bari are great smokes. My Bari smokes everything well from Capstan to Star of the East, but the best is Rattray's Red Rapparee, it makes the Orientals taste as sharp as a razor. It stays cool as an icecube too. The only problem is it will not pass a cleaner through. You will get years of enjoyment from that one.

I'm really damn glad someone brought this up.
Where in the french fried, royal blue hell do you guys find a Bari? Ebay? Are they being made still and does anyone carry them anymore, or do you guys just get lucky every once in a while? If someone can point me to one, I'll buy that som'bitch right this second.

I usually see Bari's on ebay. There's quite a few listed right now, even a couple unsmoked ones - new old stock.

Bari pipes have quite a history and are, IMO, hidden jewels in the pipe world. The late Viggo Nielsen and his sons Kai and Jorgen made the original Bari pipes until the late 1970's when Age Bogelund (another famous 1960's - 1970's Danish carver), took over production. I was told that Bogelund was among many Danish carvers hired to make the brand until production terminated sometime in the 1990's. One of the big selling points of Bari pipes was that the company's owners had a direct pipeline to some terrific wood in Italy and that is why they smoked so well. Again, I heartily recommend a Bari for those who enjoy the Danish made pipes of high quality but don't want to pay upper stratosphere prices to get one.

I occasionally find one in an out of the way shop, usually thick with dust. One guy told me "Yeah, they were kind of a lower quality freehand value brand. Nothing like a Ben Wade." Real salesman, but I got that one for peanuts.

thank you Fnord and lochinvar. Now i had smoke this pipe for several times, filled with the Balkan Sasieni and it smokes great. i was read at pipedia that Bari's 2nd name is "excellent", i think now i start to agree with that.
