I saw this on the web today:

thought it would look great in my office, but didn't have the ridiculous $300 or so in disposable income to drop on a handful of steel pipe.

What to do?

Oh wait, I'm a tinkerer,

and I just so happen to work for the past 11 years at a large Home Improvement Warehouse that I shall leave unnamed.

30 minutes and $60 later, I built this:

I customized the base to give it more stability. Plus the one online was 53" tall, mine clocks in at around 84". Not too shabby huh? ::

It's very neat and looks very similar to the one online, good job man way to save a few bucks.
And by the way that Einstein picture is awesome!

What kind of fitting did you use to attach the sockets to the black iron pipe?

Well done, you'd be a handy man to have about the house! I agree with all you say, Shayde, but I prefer the famous picture of Einstein smoking a pipe!!

Pretty cool. I have a few old tools I keep around that aren't too useful but I'd like to make into lamps some day.
