Hey guys. Two questions if you can help. My freind is taking a holiday in Vegas next week and will pick me up some baccy
I enjoy quite Smokey, reasonable nicotine kick, non aromatics.
What would be your recommendation for this most probably once in a lifetime chance
    and
Can anyone suggest an easily accessible tobacconist in Vegas. Bearing in mind although he's my best pal, he is a gambler and won't want to stray far from the strip!

The best tobacconist in Vegas, as far as selection goes, is probably the Tobacco Leaf. There's two locations, one in Henderson and one in Summerlin. I've only been to the Summerlin one, which is off the 95 and Rainbow about a fifteen minute drive from the strip. They have a very good selection of tins at a reasonable price, around $15 a tin. Typically he's stocked up on McClelland, Peterson, Mac Baren, and Dunhill to name a few.

I would have your friend pick up the following American blends from GL Pease.

    Odyssey
    Caravan
Haddo's Delight if you are a Perique lover.
Cumberland if you like a very complex virginia burley type blend.

When I was a smoker of English blends, in my opinion no one did them better than Mr Pease. You can read descriptions about his stuff here...http://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/by-maker/g-l-pease/index.cfm

When I was in Vegas for the West Coast Pipe Show a few months ago, the Tobacco Leaf seemed to be the B&M of choice & they had two locations. I wanted to go to the Tobacco Leaf, but the pipe show took up a lot of my time.........as well as everything else that Vegas has to offer. Hoping to make it to there next fall when I go to the Vegas pipe show again.

    Just a thought here --

Since the Tobacco Leaf shop is 15 minutes away, the Concierge at your friend's hotel can likely procure your tobacco from the shop, then get the tobacco order to your friend at the hotel. There'd be a tip involved, but doing it this way would be painless, save your friend some time, and probably cheaper than getting a taxi if he doesn't have a rental car.

As for what blends to choose, if I were you, I'd hit http://www.tobaccoreviews.com and eyeball blends from Cornell & Diehl, G.L. Pease and McClelland -- then simply pick out the blends that appeal to you the most and add them to your list. You might want to check with UK Customs to determine how much tobacco he can bring back too.

Mac Baren Old Dark Fired is another good one

Oh -- and we (well, Baron and me) just waxed poetic about McClelland's Black Shag -- it's 100% virginia tobaccos, but definitely a true masterpiece of the blender's art and is unlike any virginia you'll ever smoke. If I were you, that is one blend I'd get for sure.

I third the Haddo's Delight suggestion. It's been a nice diversion.

That and a cup of coffee are a great way to start the day.
