Well I'm continuing to restore the mother load of pipes I received from my FIL. You can see the original post here. http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/i-hit-the-pipe-mother-load-huge-pic-hoard

Today I cleaned and restored the two pipes with gold bands as well as reaming all of the other pipes. Below you can see some before shots of the bowls before reaming and the stems before their oxyclean soak. And some finished shots of the two pipes. The first is a bent Savinelli Gold model. It has a hand etched gold band. Second is the Dunhill Pot. It also has a gold band. These are my first pipes with gold bands. Getting ready to fire up the Dunhill with some Cut Virginia Plug.

I am thrilled that this lot found you as it is turning out to indeed be the Motherload. Looks like two more wonderful pipes.

You are fortunate, indeed, to have a father-in-law with such taste in pipes! I am curious about what you may be able to tell concerning the two dots on the stem of the Savinelli, as they are reminiscent of those used by Sasieni.

Huntertrw. From what I have found the similarities to the Saseni dots are mere coincidence. The gold dots on the stem signify the model of the pipe which is a Savinelli Gold. The band is hand etched 18k gold band and the dots I believe are also gold as they didn't tarnish like brass does.

Thank-you for the explanation, and for broadening my scant knowledge about Savinelli. On my monitor the dots appeared to be blue-green (like those used by Sasieni) rather than gold. I was not aware that Savinelli offered a Gold line, so now I have something new to watch for as I peruse various sellers' estate pipe offerings.
