Tonight begins the first edition of Monday Night Fights: the tobacco face-offs. All in good fun, of course, because both are excellent and everyone's taste is unique.

That disclaimer aside, last night I enjoyed a delightful bowl of Erinmore Flake. Tonight I'm enjoying some OGS. It's been several weeks since I smoked either.

This is a tough one, gents. How do you vote: OGS or Erinmore Flame?

I enjoy the Erinmore topping, but have to come down on the side of OGS's smooth, sweet Virginia smokability. It was very close. Both get kudos for their absolute lack of tongue bite.

    What say you?

I like OGS and EF and stock both in my cellar.

If I had to pick one, it would be Erinmore Flake only because EF is unique. I can name a half dozen virginia flakes very similar to OGS.

Yep. On top of that, I just like Erinmore flake better than Golden sliced. Both are good, EF is better, at least to my particular taste.

I agree that it's a tough call. I like both and have never really experienced the Juicy-Fruit nuances of EF. Tghat being said I might give OGS a slight edge in my pipes.

Having never tried Erinmore, I'd have to go with the Orlik.

    EF gets my vote.

Uber, no fair. You must acquire and try some EF before next Monday!

    Just the opposite for me.

You see we Mods are always on the same page.

Come to think of it... I used to buy "Golden Slices" at the local years ago.

Next Monday may interest you English smokers. But c'mon: no other opinions on these two fine tobaccos?

    +1 for Erinmore.

Got them both, like them both but have agree to with rothnh, OGS is an excellent VA but Erinmore Flake is unique in its own right. Now, Erinmore Flake up against Peterson's UF, I'd really have to think hard on that one.

Be careful what you wish for, as you just might get it.

OGS for me -- and I'm currently smoking from both jars. For me, Erinmore Flake's flavoring is just on the threshold of being cloying.
I can tolerate it, but it's gonna take a while to burn thru this tin.

I love it! What a great idea.

Unfortunately I can't sit at the judges' table for this one, having never had OGS. I'll have to root for Erinmore, though.

I think this is going to be a lot of fun.
I hope everyone that votes, either in this thread or the one's to come add a little bit of "reviewizing".
It'll be a great way for those of us whom haven't tried some blends to make some informed choices.

I love it! What a great idea.

    I agree!

I have only tried OGS once thanks to your sample. Unfortunately I think my pallet was too new to this to know any better. I will definitely try some when I get a chance though! My tobacconist has a flake called navy belt flake or something, it's a VaPer so it's probably very similar if not repackaged.

It's Tuesday morning but I'll chime in anyway.

I'd go with EF. Especially if I can count the 2 tins of Murrays production I found a couple years ago. Plus, I like the tin art better.
OGS is well, not bland, but not enough unique flavor to stand out in the crowd.

Redbeard, based on your tobacconists relabeling of Luxury Bullseye Flake you shared with us in your previous thread, I'm willing to bet that 'Navy Belt Flake' is PS's Luxury Navy Flake, another great tobacco. Just a guess. But definitely worth a try.

Well, I haven't had EF, but I love Orlik! Besides... prudent judges wouldn't smoke it if it wasn't a winner.

OGS by a knock-out from this pipe smoker. I tried EFF (thanks to a member here!) a few months ago, but couldn't get used to the fruity topping. OGS is typically my summer smoke when it gets too stinking hot for a heavy lat. But, I enjoyed a bowl on Sunday for a palate cleanser.

    Great thread. Thanks Sothron!

I love OGS. They actually call it Orlik Red in Denmark.

I've never tried Erinmore Flake, but will keep it on the list.

Judges are human after all. And to err is human. Opinions are like.. well you know. I have a tin of each open and they are both great but it is the uniqueness of Erinmore that gains it my vote.

+1 for OGS. Erinmore is nice, but just not as ready for a repeated smoke for me. OGS tins run from me because they know as soon as I open them they're done for.

Haven't tried Erinmore, but Orlik was love at first puff, just so simple but smooth and subtle. It just doesn't wear out. A tin is gone too soon.

I just tried my first bowl of Erinmore. I like it a lot more then Golden Sliced. It was a lot smother. Golden Sliced smoked harsh for me. So my choice is Erinmore

I can't decide. Erinmore to me had a unique flavor which appealed to me greatly, but the gently nuances and smoothness of the OGS gets me relaxed at the end of a hard day. So for me I think a slight edge goes to OGS, but maybe in a rematch EF will take the belt.

Erinmore flake was my "go to" for many years until I joined this forum. I must have tried 70 different blends since, lol. I have a tin of the Orlick in my cellar though, which I haven't sampled yet. Time for a comparison!

Well, it's been a close fight, with a 9-9 tie as recently as a day or so ago. By my count, however, OGS wins late in the seventh round by a score of 10 to 9.

I've had a week to think about various comparisons and now can't decide which one to throw out there next. I've got a list that should last several weeks.

PM me if you have a specific "fight" you would like to see in Monday Night lights.

I've also asked Kevin about a poll function (hint, hint). We shall see

I know we have more than 19 members, so hopefully I can spark more controversy (and participation) in the next one!

I have to go with Orlik. I just opened my first tin of Orlik today and smoked two bowls. This is some good stuff. I will be buying more for the cellar. Erinmore isn't bad either. I smoke it in my cob at work sometimes but my vote would go to Orlik.
