I thought it'd be cool to get one of the MM Hardwood pipes, so I ordered the Ozark when I bought a bit of tobacco from SP. The shank of the pipe pulled out of the bowl during my first smoke! What should I use to re-glue it?

Yes, just use a bit of wood glue on it.

They probably used corn cob glue on it by mistake.

I keep a bottle of Elmers next to my pipe rack (egg carton) full of cobs. If I get bored, I'll grab all 30 of them or whatever I have a run a bead of glue around the shanks.

I hate that extra part, is it supposed to be trimmed? How would one do that?

It is not "supposed to" be trimmed. Some folks whittle it out of there, most don't. On the majority of cobs, it allows the draft to come from the center of the bottom of the bowl. Briar pipes don't have the hole drilled through the side of the chamber, do they?
In time it may burn away. Mine never have because I never smoke down to wood taste and keep going.

I have had that happen. As stated before, just glue it with Elmer's; however, make sure you keep the draft hole aligned. And no, I do not want to talk about how I know that.
