Hello everyone, I hope you're all well.

I recently acquired an old meerschaum pipe with a chewed up stem. My initial intention was to discard the broken amber stem and to have the pipe restemmed. However, I soon discovered that the amber bit was glued in place to the shank. I didn't try to force it out nor will I lest that I should break the pipe. Therefore, I was hoping that some of you might suggest renowned pipe repairers that are equipped to handle such a case.

    Kindest regards.

Are you certain the stem is glued in place? That would be most unusual.

Perhaps try popping the pipe in the fridge for a few hours to see if that frees it up.

    Regards,

    Jay.

Dear Jay, it was confirmed by the seller. A cheap attempt at fixing the loose stem.

Amber should never go in Freezer!

Would that make it even more brittle?

Briarville is the way to go! And, never, EVER, put an amber stem in the freezer! Amber is a brittle material, and putting it in the freezer will increase that brittleness. The stem will shatter when it's twisted.

"Amber should never go in Freezer!"

That is why I suggested popping it in the fridge.

    Regards,

    Jay.
