I came across this meer in my pile of pipes. Can anyone identify it? The stamp on the stem is a worn out elephant. There's also a stamp on the stem that says KENYA. Sorry about the crazy html link.

Despite the stamp, I've never seen meerschaum with grain like that. Are you sure it's not briar?
*Edit- Now that I think about it, it is possible that your pipe had only a meerschaum lined bowl which has since been removed.

+1 on astrange1. African Meerschaum by Kiko often came in dark colors. The elephant was their logo. The parent company was Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation. Kiko was one of their brands.

With all due respect guys, I see wood grain.

This is not a meerschaum pipe.
Citing the Pipedia link that Dave posted: "Kiko Rough (Elephant logo) Old seasoned briar.Block meerschaum lined with black rustic finish.Individually boxed."
That's what you have. The Kiko Rough. It is a briar pipe that had a meerschaum bowl insert at one time.

As far as I can tell, it's meerschaum. I've reamed and carefully sanded the bowl then smoothed it out. It really doesn't feel like briar. I'm leaning toward Countryman. My camera isn't the best. I think what you're seeing as wood grain is coloring from smoking underneath the coloring applied from the manufacturer..This one has been smoked for years and not cleaned. The bowl is ready to go. I'll be cleaning up the stem this weekend. I'll let you gents know if it smokes like a meer or briar after my first bowl. Thank you guys. Much appreciated!

I believe that it was at one time a meerschaum lined briar pipe. The meershcaum lining has been removed.

Bummer. One of my first pipes with a 'name' on it other than Missouri Meerschaum was a Kiko Block Meer.

Obviously, if a meer bowl insert was put in there once, it can be done again.
