I just opened a jar of McClelland 2035 from 2006, and it totally black. Was this the way it came from McClelland, or should there be reds and browns in there as well?

Smells great.

My 2035 is totally black now, but it too has good years on it. From the factory it did have some dark brown ribbons in the flake, but from a distance looked nearly black. 2035 is my absolute favorite. I am super protective of the little bit that I have left.

It starts out with some brown in the dark flakes as well, but with that much age, they should be all black as youve found. Enjoy it!

Coincidentally I just sat out a few flakes this morning for my stay-at-home snow day. One of my favorites as well, needs much drying. I don't have much left, but have several tins of their Butera Dark Flake that is just as good.
