Grandson is a Page to his Majesty at a Ball in New Orleans. We Cajuns did it different , made homemade costumes, caps made pointed and tall with window screen , called Capashons, I would saddle up my horse and join the crew, truck pulling flatbed with Cajun band, older guys getting drunk on their horses, went house to house begging and doing outrageous stuff to get a chicken or guenia for the big gumbo that night. Farmer would come out throw the chicken in the air and the troops would chase the flapping chicken, through mud, fields, we were gonna get that poor chicken.went on all day, older guys falling off their horses drunker than skunks, remember 40days of Lent and most households didn't drink during lent, so you passed a good time. Tonaer Ma Sa Se Bon.

Your grandson looks like His Majesty himself! Great uniform. The plume and the gloves are the finishing touches.

We had Mardi Gras costumes at the blues festival in Durham the summer before last, a company of musicians and

dancers. Whether there is any connection or not, I do not know, but the costumes look similar to West African dance

costumes, intricate in decoration and creating this strong presence of an extra-human creature. New Orleans

understands festival; you people there just know how to do that, how to bring feeling to the street in a good way.

It's a special talent. As for the old guys getting drunk and falling off their horse. Yup, I know it's true.

Great costume, looks like he will do well at the Ball, just as long as he doesn't eat too much King Cake. The Royal Court is lucky to have him!
Since I moved to this side of the big swamp, I now make my Mardi Gras Day pilgrimage to Fred's in Mamou. Then head over to Eunice for the music, si bon.
Lassez le bon ton roulet.

Crew or Krewe? :D
BTW, the dog is my avatar loves the Mardi Gras season, from King Cakes to marching in the Krewe des Chiens.
