I bought a 100g tin of this stuff about a year ago. I was excited because I usually like Macbarens blends. I guess I should have read more before I ordered it. It has strong fruit flavoring with some kind of nut too. I smoked it in a viking classic about a quarter of a bowl and couldn't continue... I dumped it out and had to clean my pipe with everclear to remove the ghost it left behind. I am not a aromatic lover, I consider myself doing good to smoke captain black. I didn't care for this tobacco at all. Tried to get my wife into pipe smoking and packed her a few bowls and she seemed to like it. I have most the of the 100g left and would be willing to trade it off for anything. Just my opinion.

Here's the packaging, which looks pretty cool.

    It is a Cavendish.

Maybe we have a little trade going on here between sapo59 and pbgoldwing55?

Turns out they have not just a 100 gram size package, but a 100 gallon size one too.

thanks kevin for the picture of the mac-baren cube its comprized of about 27 different kinds of tobacco's and has a pleashant aroma along with something like a fruity taste im not sure but cant make out the flavors but is scrumpious i think anyway. and yes it also comes in a one pound container for about $75.00 dollars. perhaps sapo59 you should venture out a little in the taste field smoked captain black for years then started trying other tobacco's and wow was i supprized there is something better than a cheap smoke .... my opinion of course but nothing ventured nothing gained . and yes your write aromatic's arent for everyone's taste's perhaps you should try some dunhill or perquin i also like a tobacco called rsvp from smokeingpipe's .com

    sapo59,
There have been a lot of blends that I hated at first but revisited later, and found something good in them. The reverse has also been true. I think a lot depends on your personal body chemistry and environment at the time you try a new smoke. Also, I can't recall who said it, but the advice was to smoke at least 2 oz. of a blend before passing judgment and/or trying to analyze it. That's my 2¢ worth.

Like I said I like most Macbarens' blends but I just don't like this one, I knew when I bought it I like more english blends and alot of burley. I just thought I would try it to see if I liked it. The description is great, all these great tobaccos and light flavoring, it just doesn't do it for me. Phil I would send you the whole thing box and all minus three bowls I tried for about 50g of anything you have for trade.

    Kevin,
Is there any chance PipesMagazine.com could develop a buy/swap forum? I'm sure many of us have tins of discarded stuff that others would like to sample or buy. I think this was suggested before.

Do you just need me to set up another forum, or are some special features needed?

If it's just another forum, yeah, I'll do it right away.

If we need special features, then it will go on the list and get done in the future.

I don't have anything special in mind, so I'll defer to other folks on that.

    Sapo,

I got the CUBE today thanks... It smells wonderful; however the road trip from your house to mine in the cold weather did it no good... I spritzed it and put it up for a rest...

I think that if Mac Barren did away with the fancy packaging they could reduce the cost by 1/3... It's kind of like buying cigars... you don't smoke the box... The box is cool; however, it's made from particle board and paper (I did take the little Mac Barren Emblem off the box and glued it to a storage jar), anyway... I'll give it a day or two in a constant temperature and I’ll see what it does...

Hey Kevin... just a section for "BUY, TRADE or SELL" would be good... that way members can just go to that topic...

Glad it found you in somewhat good condition. The tin aroma is very good, I found upon smoking it I got a creamy, nutty taste. I'd say maybe hazelnut, I really don't like hazelnut at all. But let us know what you think when you get around to smoking it.
