I see pipes with long wood curved stems. How are the stems made in branches that length? Curving the stem I would guess with heat or steam in a jig. But how the heck do you get a hole through a 10 inch branch?

This guy glues long pieces together. I like the full limb or branch. I made a drill out of a skewer, it work sort of.

Amazon has a set of 12" long drill bits by Neiko Tools advertised for $14.81. The diameters in the set are 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8". I'm sure you could also buy them individually. It has got to be better than a sharpened skewer (except for kebabs).

Native Americans sealed a borer insect in a stem/branch and hung it with the bug at the bottom. The borer did the work. I had a borer do that to my apple tree branch which worked out just fine.
