My memories of Long Beach/LA go so far back, I remember it as a big homeport for the U.S. Navy. I think that
is about gone, and that it has become instead a big importing center, using a lot of that deep water port for
Pacific freighter traffic. Back in its sailor bar and tattoo parlor days, Long Beach retail didn't include any good
pipe shops. The sailors ran on cigarettes and an occasional cigar, and not even officers smoked pipes, in
general. But the scene has changed completely. Someone may be doing a brisk business, but not anyone who
has a historical business that goes back to the 1950s, I don't think.
